Kristen Stewart Cast As Joan Jett In The Runaways

News Chat - by Doug - December 3, 2008 - 15:01 America/Montreal - 6 Comments

Joan Jett - Album
We have word today that Twilight’s vampire bait Kristen Stewart has scored a super sweet role as Joan Jett in an upcoming Runaways biopic. We get the scoop from the rock and roll caves of Yahoo

Fresh from the box-office success of “Twilight,” Kristen Stewart is set to portray Joan Jett in “The Runaways,” the rock ‘n’ roll biopic of the 1970s all-girl band.

The Runaways were hugely influential as the first commercially successful all-girl hard rock band; their members included guitarists Jett and Lita Ford, drummer Sandy West, singer-keyboardist Cherie Currie and bassist Jackie Fox. The band was brought together in late 1975 by impresario Kim Fowley, who thought a novelty act of teenage girls performing in leather and lace would be an easy sell. But the girls proved to be serious and influential musicians with songs like “Cherry Bomb.” The band lasted about four years, falling apart over management and money issues.

The question on my mind is who will play Lita Ford? Joan Jett may be the most popular break off from the Runaways, but Lita Ford will always be my favorite (after Kiss Me Deadly rocked my ass.)

The Runaways are a legendary all girl rock and roll band and I am pumped to see this story told on the silver screen. Stewart looks like she will make a great Jett and I am looking forward to watching this project unfold. Check the jams for yourself below.

Kevin McKidd Being Courted For Thor

News Chat - by Doug - December 3, 2008 - 13:32 America/Montreal - 29 Comments

Kevin MckiddThere is murmuring of the man who may be Thor this day. Thanks ye to the movieweb for the following news.

McKidd mentioned a while ago that he was in talks to play a role in the film. but said it was likely for a supporting role as “They want to go for someone younger” for the main part. Seems something’s changed along the way.

McKidd, who currently appears on “Grey’s Anatomy”, says he’s excited at the prospect of working with Kenneth Branagh, who’s helming the Marvel Comics movie.

Kevin McKidd may not be a bad choice at all. At 6′ he has a frame that he can work with, and will no doubt go through a dedicated “beef up” phase before shooting. I like that McKidd isn’t young, I prefer a weathered Thor. The scar on his upper nose is also a welcome accessory.

What I am currently wondering is if Kevin will grow his hair our for the role, and don long reddish blonde locks (closer to the mythic description of Thor) or will they get him to wear a wig under his winged helm?

I wouldn’t mind this man as Thor; what do you guys think?

Lexi Alexander Considering Jonah Hex

News Chat - by Doug - December 3, 2008 - 09:34 America/Montreal - 8 Comments

Lexialexanderboxart 160WWe have news today that Lexi Alexander is considering taking the helm of Jonah Hex. We get wind of this news thanks to our friends at the movieweb:

Director Lexi Alexander (Punisher: War Zone) is already eyeing her next project, according to a rumor by JoBlo, which says that she’s considering the director’s chair for Warner Bros.’ adaptation of the DC Comic Jonah Hex.

“I like it even more that Mr. Josh Brolin is still attached. Who knows if he’ll stay, but it’s more exciting than I thought. You get a story like this you think, ‘Oh God, I’m going to be doing the same thing over and over again.’ but it’s really, really interesting.”

We were surprised and deflated around these parts when we learned that Neveldine and Taylor were no longer attached to Jonah Hex. The guys seemed to have a fire in their bones about the project and a vision that I considered to be excellent. Sadly the studio was not on board.

I am unsure of the ability of Lexi Alexander and cannot comment on her skills; I have yet to see any of her works. Campea seemed to enjoy Punisher War Zone - but I have yet to do so.

After noodling through her IMDB info however I discovered that she used to be a karate champion! If her directing is as good as her kata - everything will turn out fine.

Swayze Denies Deathbed Decree!

News Chat - by Doug - December 3, 2008 - 08:18 America/Montreal - 20 Comments

Patrick Swayze 7

It looks like Swayze has had just about enough bullshit. He’s sick of seeing people give Cancer the benefit of the doubt and has proclaimed himself the winning combatant in this duel to the death! We get the following update from BBC News:

Actor Patrick Swayze has denied US tabloid reports that he is close to death, calling allegations “shoddy and reckless reporting”.

The 56-year-old star said reports that he is “on his last legs and saying goodbye to my tearful family” were “lies and false information”.

Swayze, who has been filming a US TV drama, said his pancreatic cancer was “a battle, but so far I’m winning”.

Mortals have about a 5% chance to survive Pancreatic Cancer. Patrick Swayze is no mortal man, he is a limber meat machine with a hunger for life and a love of the dance. I have told cancer again and again that it best leave Swayze be. With luck, this time cancer will fade off into the sunset with its tail between its legs.

Cancer has a tail - you heard it here first.

Now Swayze will rip it off and use it as a jump rope.

HAIL SWAYZE!

While She Was Out Poster

News Chat - by Doug - December 3, 2008 - 07:40 America/Montreal - 7 Comments

We have a poster for the upcoming Kim Basinger survival film While She Was Out. We get the following hookup thanks to our friends at moviesonlone:

Poster While She Was Out

I enjoyed the trailer for this one. It Survival horror films, are among the greatest adrenaline boosting films out there. Once you relate to the hunted, you join them on the run and cheer for their victories as they face obstacle after obstacle en route to freedom.

As far as the poster goes, I think it is passable but nothing special. I would have preferred a painting of Kim Basinger getting thrown into the trunk of a car with ripped clothing.

When I was a youngster, hunting for nudity in film was an exciting exercise. You would stop at a glorious shot, call your friends, and if they were near - they would come over. Nudity was scare back then; before pornonaughts took over the earth.

The Amy Smart nude scene was horrific (not her - what happens), the Amy Adams nude scene is one I need to see and Alyssa Milano needs to be on that list for her scenes in Pathology. At the Pathology screening I was watching Alyssa Milano nude on screen as she was sitting in front of me. It took everything within me not to tap her on the shoulder and say “solid work champ.”

If you guys have other nude scenes that come to mind from the films of 2008 - feel free to share!

The Witches

News Chat - by Doug - December 2, 2008 - 14:54 America/Montreal - 6 Comments

DeltoroWe have news today of a stop animation film based on the book The Witches by Roald Dahl. We get word of this project thanks to our friends over at MTV:

Guillermo del ToroTwo years ago, it was announced that Alfonso Cuaron and Guillermo del Toro would be teaming up to remake Roald Dahl’s classic book, “The Witches.” Cuaron also says it won’t be anything like the 1990 film, because del Toro will “do it completely in stop-motion animation.”

Back in 2006, it was rumored that Cuaron would direct, and del Toro would produce. Well, time has passed, and the roles have changed. Cuaron tells Empire that he will stay behind the scenes, while the increasingly busy del Toro directs the film. The project came about as the two were discussing adapting another Dahl story, “Uncle Oswald,” when talk turned to “The Witches.” Inspired, Cuaron says, “Guillermo wrote this amazing screenplay really quickly.”

I enjoy stop motion animation and am pumped to see what sort of fairy tale land Guillermo will create for this film. The problem is, the guy is so busy, that I don’t expect to see this for quite some time. Del Toro is locked down for the next 10 odd years with work, and it looks like he is piling more on. IF a few of his projects run over time - he could start running into trouble.

Then again, idle hands do the Devil’s work and maybe Guillermo wants to make as many movies as possible while he still lives.

Have any of you read the book, and if so what are your thoughts on both Guilermo’s involvement and capturing the story with stop-motion animation?

Piping Hot Wolverine Pics

News Chat - by Doug - December 2, 2008 - 10:33 America/Montreal - 34 Comments

We have a few more Wolverine pics to throw your way today thanks to our friends over at the movieweb:

Wolv2

Wolv1

I like the shot where Wolverine and Sabretooth are tied to posts awaiting execution. I certainly don’t like that Sabretooth has short hair. So far as I can remember he always had long hair and looked like he listened to Sepultura. I don’t know if he got a haircut in the comics - but I’m not pleased about his lid.

The word on the street regarding this film has been getting better as of late. A while back it was nothing but bad, now some positive buzz seems to be bubbling forth. Of course we will all find out May 1st 2009.

International friends - what do you think of these pics and Sabretooth’s haircut?

Ray Stevenson Joins The Book of Eli

News Chat - by Doug - December 2, 2008 - 09:41 America/Montreal - 3 Comments

Ray-StevensonWe have news today that Mr. Ray Stevenson has been tapped to chase Denzel in The Book Of Eli. We get the following news thanks to our friends at the movieweb:

Ray Stevenson (Punisher: War Zone) has boarded The Book of Eli, joining Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman and Mila Kunis in the Alcon-financed drama that Warner Bros. will distribute.

Stevenson will play an enforcer dispatched to kill Eli (Washington) as he fights his way across the American wasteland, protecting a sacred book that may hold the key to saving humanity.

I was full blown pumped for this project until I found out that Denzel will have a female sidekick. That news let half of the air out of my tires. I don’t mind if the girl is another protector of the book, I’m just worried that she’ll be a romantic interest. Post Apocalyptic wastelands are no place for love. None.

I will take post apocalyptic films any way I can get them however, and with luck this one will be a winner. I hope Ray Stevenson has a set of post apocalyptic armor made out of old tires, football gear and scrap metal. Armor made from scrap is the stuff that makes my member move.

The Book of Eli is scheduled for a February start and we will be sure to keep you up to speed.

Shia LaBeouf Set To Star In The Associate

News Chat - by Doug - December 2, 2008 - 08:24 America/Montreal - 10 Comments

BeefWe have word today that The Beef will be playing a lawyer in the upcoming legal thriller The Associate. We get the following scoop thanks to our friends at comingsoon:

Paramount Pictures has set Shia LaBeouf to play the title role in the big screen version of John Grisham’s upcoming legal thriller “The Associate,” which the studio has just acquired rights to. Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing.

Variety says LaBeouf will play a student who’s about to graduate from Yale Law School when he’s manipulated into accepting a job at a prestige law firm and given privileged information about a multibillion-dollar lawsuit.

I’m not big on legal dramas, thrillers, comedies yadda, yadda, yadda. Court is a place I never want to be, and I get little satisfaction from watching cases unfold on screen. There are exceptions to this rule of course. To Kill A Mockingbird is great, as is the deliberation boiler room known as 12 Angry Men (the original, not the Tony Danza remake).

Also, love him or hate him - is Shia “The Beeflord” going to be able pull off a role as a lawyer? I know the character is fresh out of school, but I’m not sure I see Shia as the most “sellable” in this role. Maybe its just me however, he could be exceptional in front of the judge - we will wait and see.

International Friends - have any of you read this book? If so, what do you think about this news, is The Beef the man for the job, or do you consider this to be a miscast?

Eddie Unhappy With Current Beverly Hills 4 Script

News Chat - by Doug - December 2, 2008 - 07:46 America/Montreal - 21 Comments

Eddie-MurphyWe have some news regarding the progress of Beverly Hills Cop 4, and it looks like Eddy isn’t happy with the script. We get the following scoop thanks to our friends over at cinematical:

Latino Review managed to snag a draft of Beverly Hills Cop 4 (one they claim “the studio loves, but Eddie Murphy is not too keen on”), and they’ve slapped a C+ grade on it. Based on their description (which includes spoilers, so watch out), the flick looks to be a combination of the original Beverly Hills Cop and Hitch, with Axel Foley (Murphy) trying to figure out who killed one of his friends, all while helping his new, fat partner score with some girl he has a crush on. LR says it’s a “pretty standard police corruption story”, and it feels “like the writers took an Arnold Schwarzenegger script they had lying around and changed the details to make it a Beverly Hills Cop movie. There’s no fun in it.”

Eddie Murphy said that he wanted Bevery Hills Cop to be his last hurrah in the film world. He claims that he plans to return to the stage as a stand up comedian and will fire up the mic anew. I hope his words were true, and I’m guessing that they may be based on his desire to make sure that BHC4 is a quality film.

Doing shit films over the years has been Murphy’s calling card so no matter how this ends up in theaters; its just nice to hear that he gives a shit about this one. I’m pleased that he’s starting to care - that’s a good sign in my books.

Someone asked me about this project yesterday on the 2PM live show and I’m glad an update of sorts has filtered down the pipe. We will wait and see for more news regarding this project and with luck we will have another Latino Review script review shortly.

Rob Zombie Swoops In To Scoop Up Halloween 2

News Chat - by Doug - December 2, 2008 - 06:44 America/Montreal - 22 Comments

Mike-Myers-1Well this is strange. It looks like Rob Zombie is back in the saddle for Halloween 2. We get wind of this thanks to the sleuths over at shocktillyoudrop:

It’s been widely reported at this point that Inside helmers Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo have parted ways with Dimension Films and Trancas International’s proposed Halloween 2, leaving the door open to anyone. An insider phoned in this afternoon exclusively informing ShockTillYouDrop.com that Rob Zombie is going to reprise his duties as director and carry on the new Myers legacy that he forged with Tyler Mane behind the mask.

This news is still in the rumor stage at this point, but looks to be true and the author of the source article expects an official announcement shortly.

I have yet to see the Zombie Halloween. Reviews have been mixed, but people either seem to dig it, or not. I hear little middle ground when people describe their experience with this film to me.

I have said before that if this remake must have a sequel, Rob Zombie should be the one to do it. He was the one that wanted to add his own spin to the story, so it is my opinion that he should remain as the storyteller.

For thos of you that are horror enthusiasts - I would like to hear your thoughts on this news. Are you excited that Zombie is back, or do you wish Myers would stay dead?

Fans Come Together To Celebrate A Christmas Story’s 25th

News Chat - by Doug - December 1, 2008 - 08:24 America/Montreal - 3 Comments

We learn today about a cool fan event celebrating A Christmas Story’s 25th anniversary thanks to the memory caves of Yahoo:

Fans of the holiday classic “A Christmas Story” are celebrating the film’s 25th anniversary with a convention and trips to the house where the movie was made.
The 1983 film, an adaptation of Jean Shepard’s memoir of a boy in the 1940s, was set in Indiana but largely filmed in Ohio. The movie starred Peter Billingsley as Ralphie Parker, a young boy determined to get a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas.

“It is unbelievable that a movie has touched the lives of millions of families,” said Phil Gillen, son of the late actor Jeff Gillen who played the movie’s worn-out Santa Claus. He traveled from Miami with his family to attend the convention.

A Christmas Story isn’t one of my favorite holiday films, but I still think it’s rad that those who love it are coming together to party at the womb. People gravitate towards films for all sorts of reasons, and one thing you gain when you become a fan of something is an association with like minded enthusiasts. It’s fun to get together with those that share a passion for a common appreciation. Fun is good.

If any of you have been to this event, please let us know what it was like. For those of you that haven’t; please feel free to share a story about a fan event that you have been to that was particularly rewarding. For myself the coolest event I have went to (recently) was at the Arclight in Hollywood. I was able to see The Man Who Would Be King with a theatre full of fans and Mr. Connery himself.

Kelsey Grammer Set To Teach In Fame

News Chat - by Doug - December 1, 2008 - 08:15 America/Montreal - Be first to Comment!

It looks like the Fame remake has assembled its instructors. We hear of this news thanks to the good people over at comingsoon:

Lakeshore and MGM have tapped Debbie Allen, Charles S. Dutton, Kelsey Grammer, Megan Mullally and Bebe Neuwirth for the roles of instructors and supervisors in the upcoming Fame remake, reports Variety. Production begins Wednesday, with Kevin Tancharoen directing. As with the 1980 original, the remake follows dancers, singers, actors and artists from auditions to graduation at the New York City High School of Performing Arts.

Mullally’s a graduate of the School of American Ballet and will portray a voice instructor; Grammer, who attended Juilliard, will play an orchestra maestro; Dutton, a graduate of Yale School of Drama, will portray an acting teacher; Neuwirth, a Tony winner, will play a dance instructor.

I must admit, it’s cool that they’ve hired people based on their skills and Alma Mater. Having quality instructors will certainly make this Fame reboot more endearing. Much of the drama will come by way of the teachers interacting with the students, so making the teachers seem believable is essential.

I am a fan of Kelsey Grammer and am glad to see him on this list. I wasn’t looking forward to Fame, and still am not really; but Grammer added to the mix certainly raises my curiosity about the project.

I didn’t follow Frasier religiously, but the show had excellent writing. Some of the funniest TV I have seen was birthed through Grammer’s interactions with David Hyde Pierce. I consider them to be among the greatest of television comedy duos.

Fame is set for a September 25, 2009 release, and we will be sure to keep you updated with all the news and announcements.

Twilight: New Moon Begins In March

News Chat - by Doug - December 1, 2008 - 07:09 America/Montreal - 34 Comments

We have some news regarding the upcoming Twilight sequel thanks to the probing prowess of Ryan Seacrest via our friends over at the movieweb:

While speaking with Twilight star, Kristen Stewart, on Kiis FM, Ryan Seacrest found out that the production start date for the sequel, New Moon, is set for March. The actress provided some more details…

“A lot of the book takes place in Italy, and I think we’re going to get to go to Italy, which is so cool,” Stewart says. “For a while there, they were like, Oh, we don’t know if we have the money, but now I think we may have the money!”

Yes, it looks like they have all the money that they need Kristen.

I have yet to see Twilight, but I think it’s wise that they ride the buzz and pump the second film out for 2010. Those involved in this fledgling franchise will hardly be able to rest before work begins anew, with all the hype still hot however I think this is the correct decision for many reasons.

Teen Vampires will continue to suck money out of our wallets. (Time to buy Kevlar pantaloons).

Hobbit Will Film For 370 Days

News Chat - by Doug - December 1, 2008 - 06:38 America/Montreal - 12 Comments

We have some information regarding the timeline for The Hobbit thanks to the following interview excerpt provided by our friends at the movieweb:

When does filming for The Hobbit begin?

Guillermo del Toro: It will begin in 2010 and we will shoot for about 370 days or so…

At what age did you first read The Hobbit?

Guillermo del Toro: I believe it was between 10 years old and 11 years old. My first copy of it is dated as printed in 1973 and I know I bought it shortly after being published by a great publishing house called MINOTAURO which was (in my childhood years) like the CRITERION COLLECTION of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror.

For the rest of the interview please go to the source article.

This is going to be a year and a bit of non stop filming in Middle Earth. I would love to get onto this set and would try my very best to steal a suit of chain-mail. I don’t know what the hell happened to all the armor/weapons from the first LOTR, but If any of you work in a warehouse that stores this shit - feel free to mail some to me. In exchange I will give you my eternal thanks and 2 pints of my blood.

I am excited about this film very very much and am glad that the wheels have begun to turn on this bus. I am interested in seeing Del Toro’s imprint on this story under the supervision of Mr. Jackson. I have high hopes for this team up and am wondering if the collective will cause something even greater that the sum of all parts.

Smaug’s days are numbered.

Genesis: Apes

News Chat - by Doug - December 1, 2008 - 06:06 America/Montreal - 15 Comments

It looks like the Hollywood overlords are planning on bringing another Apes installment to theaters. We get this news this morning from CHUD via Latino Review:

A while ago there were rumblings from 1994 male cheerleading champion Devin over at CHUD about another Planet of the Apes movie called Genesis: Apes. Essentially dead in the water, the idea seems to have some life. Devin follows up on his monkey obsession with news coming straight from Tom Rothman himself:

We are very close at Fox on a new Apes script- this one a kind of prequel story before the first story, with a return to the social thematics that mark the first one, but with an entirely contemporary setting - Earth 2009.

It looks like this film plans to show the day the apes became “aware” of their advancement and the beginnings of the takeover. Whenever you “fill in” the origin story - you have to ensure that it is good in order to do justice to the other films. I certainly hope this film is more well received that Tim Burton’s crack at the franchise.

If I was making this film I’d have a scene where the apes break into an American Apparel and shoplift stretch pants. Now that they’re planning on taking over the planet - no one gets to see their exposed crotches for free. When you’re at the top of the food chain, pants are expected of you.

International friends, would you welcome another Ape film - or is this a universe that should now be left alone.

Tom and Katie Set To Tango?

News Chat - by Doug - November 28, 2008 - 17:16 America/Montreal - 10 Comments

Tom Kate Narrowweb 300X428,0It looks like Mr. and Mrs. Cruise may be starring in a saucy remake of Last Tango in Paris. We get wind of this news thanks to the WEBMASTER at FILM JUNK.

Gotta love those British tabloids… they keep cooking up some seriously amazing rumours. This week there’s a report from NOW Magazine that says Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are looking to star in a movie together that is “cutting edge and sexy, but also accessible”. Their solution? A remake of Bernardo Bertolucci’s Last Tango in Paris!

If Tom and Katie star in this remake, I want it to be a sultry whorish affair. I haven’t seen Last Tango in Paris, but people say it’s racy and if they’re going to bother to remake it - I say go overboard with the sensual onslaught. Eyes Wide Shut was a great sexy thriller with Tom and the ex; it only makes sense that he would want another film to embarrass his current child by humping her mom on screen as well.

Seeing your parents bang on screen (along with the world) is a definite downside to being the child of an actor.

Patrick Swayze VS Cancer: Round Two

News Chat - by Doug - November 28, 2008 - 12:18 America/Montreal - 29 Comments

Swayze-2

International friends - it is with a heavy heart that I pass the following news to you from the good people over at theage

Patrick Swayze’s cancer has reportedly spread to his liver. The Dirty Dancing star - who announced earlier this year he is suffering from pancreatic cancer - has reportedly started preparing himself for death by saying goodbye to his friends and family after discovering the deadly disease has infested another part of his body.

A source told National Enquirer magazine: “Patrick recently got word that the cancer had spread to his liver and that is what his doctors said would begin the countdown to the end. Patrick knew it was coming because he was suffering increased weakness. “At times, he was so weak that he could barely walk without feeling faint. Sometimes he feels out of breath and has to sit down.”

Patrick, 56, has reportedly told Lisa, his wife of 33 years, and his brother Donny that he doesn’t have long to live.

We have heard this before, and I declare now as I did before; Cancer shall have no part of Swayze. This affront to his blessed liver will not stand and the glorious Swaze will once again stand victorious.

Cancer you lost your fist match against Swayze, and in the second bout you stand to be humiliated anew. If you thought Lance Armstrong gave you a hard time, wait till you feel the wrath and persistence of Swayze! The man has 4 livers and 3 hearts!!! Bring it!

I refuse to feel sorrow for Swayze, he will be victorious; he will conquor. If I believed in the gods I would pray to the pantheon tonight, I would saw a cow in half like Abraham and spend countless hours in supplication. Because I believe the skies are hollow, I can only believe in Swayze this day. And believe in him I shall.

He beat cancer before and he will do it again.

Cancer, fuck you.
