Pink Panther Sequel

This one surprises me. The new Pink Panther movie with Steve Martin (who I totally love by the way) wasn't all the well received (it only scored a 20% on Rotten Tomatoes) and it actually lost money in it's theatrical release... and yet it appears they're getting ready to do another one.

The good folks over at Moviehole give us the following:

MGM have already decided to push ahead with a second “Pink Panther” movie. No doubt Steve Martin will be back, as he’s expressed his willingness to continue the character in the mass of interviews he has done of late. (And with that other cash cow of a franchise, “Cheaper by the Dozen”, winding up - apparently they just can’t make deals with the youngsters of the series, who are all too well-known now, so they’ve abandoned plans for a third instalment - he’s beseeching a good franchise to lasso himself to).
i don't know about this. I would much rather see Martin go on and write more of his own original stuff like he did for Bowfinger, his updated version of Cyrano de Bergerac in Roxanne or The Three Amigos. Leave the silly campy stuff like Cheaper by the Dozen and Panther alone.

Sigh,

With todays hollywood, you sometimes have to put up with some of your favorite personallities doing bad, commercial movies, like Eugene Levy, he drops some serious bombs on us now and again, but at least he touches base with his roots and does some writting/actting in good movies i.e. anything Christopher Guest.

Steve Martin really needs to do something original and soon, more Shopgirl, less Panther.

Peter Sellers is once again rolling over in his grave.

This is so typical of Hollywood these days, and there's a reason for it, in my opinion. See "Why Hollywood Makes So Many Crappy Movies" at http://www.celebritywonk.com

Forget Steve Martin; Bring back ROBERTO BEGINI if you really need another film.

Better yet...do a full lengh animated Pink Panther (as in the cat) and/or Ant & The Aardvark. The early Panther cartoons were animated short Oscar winners.

The Steve Martin film? That was beneath him; even freakin' The Lonely Guy (1984) was funnier than Pink Panther.

Come to think of it, every comedy or comedy-drama Steve Martin has been in up to Panther was ten times better.

I'd much rather have him do a sequel to The Man With Two Brains before I'd see him back as the Inspector. Hell yeah, I'm serious.

I saw the over seas box office take is actually doing very well and it hasn't open in most major markets.
