HELLBOY 2: THE GOLDEN ARMY

I really enjoyed the first Hellboy film. To be honest I thought it was going to suck from start to finish, but the way they shot it and portrayed the main character really grabbed me and almost forced me to like it. I've been enthusiastic about the idea of a sequel ever since

However, we really haven't heard a lot of news coming out of the Hellboy camp this year which has had me a little worried... until now. Ron Perlman recently talked about the upcoming project. Here's what the good folks over at Cinescape had to say:

Perlman said during an interview, "I think that that's an invention based on a number of different things that have appeared in other comic books." He also added, "It's a compendium of a lot of elements that they were not able to address in the first one... Now they can kind of branch out a little bit and get funky with it...."

The production hopes to start filming later this year.

Go into production this year? Oh man that would be sweet. However, if it's true then you can pretty much throw the idea of Guillermo del Toro directing Halo out the window (which is probably a good thing for Guillermo).

Personally, they can't make this movie fast enough. I'm dying to see Perlman in the big red suit again.

Couldn't help but think of Zhang Yimou's next movie about a "Golden Army" as well- english title tentatively called "City of Golden Armour"

Any other similarities from there?

They need to hurry the hell up. Perlman ain't getting any younger.

Great news...I really liked the first movie. Ron P and Selma Blair made a great couple ...
