Silent Hill Poster

Silent Hill PosterThe good folks over at Latino Review have put up the official 1 sheet for the upcoming latest video game-to-movie adaptation "Silent Hill". To see a larger version of the Silent Hill poster you can go here.

They're synopsis for Silent Hill goes something like this:

The eerie and deserted ghost town of SILENT HILL draws a young mother desperate to find a cure for her only child's illness. Unable to accept the doctor's diagnosis that her daughter should be permanently institutionalized for psychiatric care, Rose (Radha Mitchell) flees with her child, heading for the abandoned town in search of answers -- and ignoring the protests of her husband (Sean Bean). It's soon clear this place is unlike anywhere she's ever been. It's smothered by fog, inhabited by a variety of strange beings and periodically overcome by a living Darkness that literally transforms everything it touches. As Rose searches for her little girl, she begins to learn the history of the strange town and realizes that her daughter is just a pawn in a larger game.
Now don't get me wrong, there hasn't been anything wrong with the trailers or images I've seen for Silent Hill... but I just can't get excited about ANY video game movies... because they have all without exception SUCKED no matter how much promise they seemed to have. Nothing will convince me otherwise until one finally proves it on the big screen. Man I'm so jadded.

I agree about video game movies. House of the Dead is quite possibly the worst movie I have ever seen and Doom looks terrible. Resident Evil one though is one of my top ten guilty pleasures.

Anyway; I loved the Silent Hill video game series. Totally freaky and fun to play (screaming bloody babies attacking your ankles...yes!). The trailer for Silent Hill the movie looks great as far as aesthetics (sp?). The fog rolling over the town, the strange mannequin attackers, the bloody rooms, people running past doors quickly and even the way the dialogue is spoken reminds me of the dreamlike feel of the game.

I'm not saying it looks like a good movie (or bad for that matter), I'm just saying it appears that the creators did a good job of capturing the look and feel of the video game. I will see this opening day.

Bottom line: Christophe Gans isn't Paul WS Anderson; he is most assurdly not Uwe Boll.
He was behind thee film 'Le Pact Des Loups' aka 'Brotherhood Of The Wolf', which I loved.
This film seems to imply more suspense and creepiness than your by the numbers rock video.

i like most video game movies. I loved Mortal Kombat(I know it's old, but who cares) and doom wasn't the peice of crap people claim it is. I probably won't see this in the theater because, well, I've never played the game.

I have liked alot of "video-game made movie" movies. I guess mainly due to me being a big gaming fanatic and movie lover. I own and played all the silent hill games and loved them, I think that a movie format would be great for it cause the game itself had more of a movie feel to it than just a reagular video game. Watched the teaser for it and cant wait for the release. ;P

I've played most the Silent Hill games and my favorite is still the first one. I play it still today now and then, even though it's a pretty old game. But it's still fun and scarry as hell. And the movie looks to be almost an EXACT telling of the first game.

Judging by the trailer, the only diffrence is that the lead character is a woman, rather then a man and they included her spouse in the story, Sean Bean, who I think is an awsome actor btw. Everything else seems pretty much there. The cool female cop, Dahlia Gillespie, the creepy the syrins going off before the, well, don't wanna give any spoilers. ;) Even the demon babies with scalpels and twisted nurses.

As a fan of this series I can't wait. And I'm really thinking that the hope of a movie based on a video game and it actualy turning out good, is going to come alot sooner then having to wait on the Halo film 2007 with this one. If directors would just stay true to the freakin' original material, we would of had a good video game based movie a long damn time ago...

You can't really lump together "video game based" movies without considering the creators behind it. The creators of this one have a good track record. Konami (the company that made the Silent Hill games) didn't want their game to be made into a movie because of the same reasons, until they met Mr. Gans. So if the series creators are confident, then I think it's something to look forward to.
Actually, the original game serious creator's also onboard with this movie as the musical composer, because every fan knows that the series wouldn't be the same without his soundtrack. If he hasn't complained about anything yet, then I can't wait.

Of course I could be wrong and the movie can suck, but for now I'm looking forward to it.

The buzz on this one is VERY positive so I am cautiously optimistic.
