Ratner Wants To Stay True To Singer

There has been more bad news than good coming out of X-Men 3 land, but this interview with director Brett Ratner is at least a little encouraging. In an interview with Sci-Fi Wire, Ratner says that one of the most important things to him on this project was staying true to the tone and feel that Bryan Singer set with the first 2 X-Men installment. Here's some of what was said:

In casting the new actors, Ratner said that he tried to remain true to Singer's vision. "I thought, 'If Bryan was directing this movie, who would he hire?'" he said. "I was very careful, not because I want to make sure he's happy with the movie—although I care what he thinks and I respect his work—but I didn't want to have fans saying, 'Where did that come from?'"
This is good news. The only question is... did Ratner succeed? We'll know the answer May 26th.

I knew there was something good coming from the director when I bought my first DVD, Rush Hour 2.

I notice the major complant is that the first two X-Men films didn't have that "action" climax, or doesn't feature enough. I do hope that if the story fail, the action doesn't. We'll see if everything is pulled together by release time. I'd be surprised if they pull a Narnia and beat Superman in the box-office, but that's wishful thinking.

BTW, I guess I should give up hope (for now) of a Tim Burton/Joss Whedon team-up on X4, since Whedon is working on Wonder Woman.
I'd still like to see Burton do an Age of Apocalypse feature. Just a few changes:
Avoid the time-traveling plot (or "What If" story) and make it like the House of M comic books; let this event make a lasting effect on our heroes. With Apocalypse (and, hopefully, the Four Horsemen), the story could focus MAINLY on mutants trying to survive and beat the living crap out of each other, since I hear that some fans of the movie aren't liking how "mutants are more focused on the human factor and don't fight much against the Brotherhood."

Though Whedon is gone, I'd LOVE to see Tim Burton/Age of Apocalypse take for X4 (and maybe X5).

P.S.: Let's see Phoenix go overload on this!
