Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room Wins Documentary Award

Enron: The Smartest Guys in the RoomEnron: The Smartest Guys in the Room is (in my opinion) easily the best documentary of the year. I still remember my friend Wormwood first telling me about it and how good it was.... he wasn't wrong. It's one of those documentaries that everyone should see.

Enron is still and underdog for the Oscar going up against the sentimental powerhouse that is "March of the Penguins", but it just nabbed it's first big award. The good folks form Yahoo News give us this:

The writer/director of "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room" is the second winner of the Writers Guild of America's award for best documentary writing, the union said Wednesday. Alex Gibney, who also has been nominated for a documentary feature Academy Award, was set to receive the honor from actor James Woods during a ceremony in Hollywood in Wednesday evening.
Bravo! Here's hoping it gets it's due at the Oscars this year. It really does deserve it.

Tonight, if you get the chance, John, you might want to catch what many consider to have been thee Best Doc of last year on the Discovery Channel- Werner Herzog's "Grizzly Man".
This film got shortchanged by the Oscar nominations.

Okay, maybe the story of a guy who loses his marbles and lived among Alaskan grizzly bears before the bears turned him and his girlfriend into a winter lunch may not appeal to some, but it was one of the best docs of last year. Yes, I loved the pengies too. But the birds didn't eat the camera crew either.
