Dark Crystal 2!!! Power Of The Dark Crystal

SkeksisDark Crystal 2 is coming!!!! Yes, you read that right boys and girls. There is a sequel to The Dark Crystal in the works that will be titled "Power of the Dark Crystal". I haven't felt this giddy about a film announcment since they announced there was going to be a Transformers movie!

The following is courtesy of Cinescape:

The story is set hundreds of years after the first film and follows a mysterious girl made of fire who steals a shard of the crystal in hopes of reigniting the dying sun. Annette Duffy and David Odell wrote the script. The Jim Henson Co.'s Lisa Henson and the Orphanage Animation Studios' Scott Stewart will produce. Brian Froud will design new characters for the film.
The film is going to be directed by... are you ready for this... Genndy Tartakovsky! The man behind Star Wars Clone Wars, Samurai Jack and Dexter's Laboratory is now brining the goodness to us! Yay!

And for all you purists out there... yes... the characters are going to indeed be puppets! However, they are going to use CG for all the sets and backgrounds. That just makes sense to me... it'll be a lot cheaper for them to do it that way... still look amazing... and give them more options and flexability.

Preproduction is already underway with full production scheduled to start near the end of summer. Damn I'm excited!!!!

I am excited about this as well. The choice of director is great.
I only hope the CG looks better than Mirror Mask. Some of that stuff looked dated 1997.I wonder if through CG they will seek to capture the original 80's look.
Being it is set hundreds of years after the original creates tons of possiblities.
Cannot wait.

Now to complete my nostalgia hunger someone at Disney needs to pull their thumb out their butt and greenlight Tron 2.

I was hesitant to get excited about this project, but with Genndy on board I have some high hopes! He's been behind some of my favorite cartoons, namely the Power Puff Girls! I'm also stoked they're going to continue to use puppets!

WOW! I was ready to say "NO! That's enough sequelizing and remaking!" but - they will actually use puppets? HELL YES! They actually got a director who has substance in the medium of quasi-kiddie adult productions! I am truly excited!

CG is not the devil. and i'm glad you pointed out how much sense CG backgrounds make.

Plus i'm sure if they used CG to enhance a few puppets no one would care/notice.

the original was one of those few movies that actually scared me as a child. But i still remember with fond memories.
how odd is that?

Super news. fingers crossed they don't try and over-cgi it. stick with the storyline and develop the characters with cgi to ADD to the feel.

Mogulus - I was going to say the exact same thing! Some of the stuff in the first movie scared the crap out of me but I remember making my mom take me to see it half a dozen times! I'm going to have to pick the original up on DVD, I don't think I've watched it since I was, hmmm let me see, 6 years old! Wow, I'm getting old.

Finally, another movie to be excited about...the only one I'm looking forward currently is Superman Returns. Now, there is another...
