John, at least be happy that Universal has admitted to a triple-dip. Other studios wouldn't do that. they'd just try to milk the money train. I can wait for the super-duper edition if need be.

And keep in mind, this news is from a FRENCH DVD place. They didn't say shit about the US. Overseas DVD releases vary from US editions.

And John, her name is DIANE KEATON.

Thought the comments on different editions of 'Lord of the Rings' DVDs were way out of wack. According to the podcast there were four or five different releases of the same movie, with a new one every two months??!!! Reality: "bare bones" version of each movie gets released with "advertorial" extra's. Several months later an "extended" version gets released with "collectors" edition comprising aditional Weta sculptures and an extra DVD ON THE SAME DAY. That seems fair to me, particularly since purchasers were warned upfront that the extended version would be coming along. And they kept the extra's mutually exclusive. Much worse are the companies who release a bare bones version, then a "special edition" a year (or sometimes just a few months) later, and then a "collector's edition" with one or two new extra's on (and one or two taken off) and then an "ultimate edition" (with one or two newer extra's added). "Planet of the Apes" is a prime example of this sort of "exploit the fans" release pattern. "Kong" and "Lotr" aren't - sure they may have released a lot of extra material, but if they hadn't fans would be complaining that they want it. The way they've handled those releases there's no duplication and you make the choice. Much better value for money than the "endless editions" scenarios that other movies have pulled.

poor old keanu!

i think scanner darkly looks awesome, I am definitly down with the visual style.

It just looks cool and different, I really don't see how it could annoy you...but I guess different strokes.

I would much rather go to the theaters and see a sci-fi adventure with a cool visual style I have never seen before than another romantic comedy, or *shudder* a drama!

and! I think you are being very unfair with Keanu...I was just looking over his IMDB resume, and you know what john?

i'll tell you what!

I think you are flat out wrong in condemming reeves for "is this reality" style junk....other than the matrix, he has never done anything like that.

he has certainly done science fiction before, but, I think you are being very unfair pigeon holing him like that. I think the list of movies he has been in speaks for itself.

Disclaimer: I'm not one of those LotR nuts. I havent even seen the 3rd movie so don't assume this is justification for anything.

I remember you guys going off on the multiple DVD releases last year using Lord of the Rings as the example. You guys do have a point with the idea but Lord of the Rings is the absolute worst example you can use. With LotR or King Kong then at least you're getting a heads up that multiple versions are being released. As a consumer then you have the choice to plan out which version actually fits your interest level. If you're really interested in the mega-ultra edition of the first LotR then you can just rent the basic edition and wait out the version you want. Anyone who waited out the deluxe version will tell you that it's worth it because its loaded with everything. So in the end then the studios treated their fans right by offering choices and not tricking them.

Now, if you want to pick a movie that fits your "evil company is taking advantage of loyal fans" then you can pretty much go to any other DVD out there. I ebayed my basic "Desperado" copy and got the Desperado Special Edition and pretty much the only extra was a trailer for the sequel. There's about 7 versions of Toy Story out there for no reason. Kill Bill is obviously not the "final" dvd set. Disney and its "limited edition" movies where they pull DVDs off the shelf in order to rerelease them to the exact same customers. These are all examples of loyalty being cashed in on. So next time you pull out this argument then look at your DVD collection and try to find an example that actually fits the point.

Oh, and once again Darren was right. There is a King Kong dvd set out already which is pretty much the special features of the movie...but no movie. Now that's something worth discussing.

Yeah, who the hell would pay 40 bucks just for the bts stuff with no movie? What a crock of shit that is.

How many people are actually downloading the video feed? It seems like we're trading audio quality for video because when they're on video their mic skills seem to be several times worse than when doing an audio-only show.

If enough people watch the video then great, but it seriously is tough on the ears to listen to the show on the ipod because you need to constantly control volume levels manually.

We're aware that there are some issues with the audio quality. It's simply a matter of us learning how to adjust to the new format. Believe me, the quality will improve as our experience with the technology grows!

PLEASE go back to offering direct downloads, or torrents of the show. I hate the youtube flash variants. while its fine for small clips, large shows like yours look nasty and laggy, and more importantly, you need an internet connection to view them.
