Why We Fight Trailer

Why We FightThe Why We Fight trailer is on the web... and it's really something you need to see. Why we Fight is a look at the American military machine and it's unhealthy relationship with industrial corporations... and the HUGE money that flows between the two.

Now, before you make the same mistake that I did and assume that this is some left wing propaganda, you should see the trailer. It's actually a bipartisan piece of work and the film features (among others) republican senator John McCain, who gives the most memorable quote in the trailer that goes something like this: "When does the United States go from a force for good, to a force of Imperialism?"

The synopsis of the documentary goes something like this:

...an unflinching look at the anatomy of the American war machine, weaving unforgettable personal stories with commentary by a "who's who" of military and beltway insiders. Featuring John McCain, Gore Vidal, William Kristol, Chalmers Johnson, Richard Perle and others, "Why We Fight" launches a bipartisan inquiry into the workings of the military industrial complex and the rise of the American Empire.
I personally can't wait to see this one. You can see the Why We Fight trailer here.

More liberal big-screen bullshit. Fuck off and die.

Hmmm... let's see... the film seems to bash Clinton.. and it features Republican Senator McCain. Yup... sure sounds like "more liberal big-screen bullshit" to me too. At least you're open minded. :P

Wow, stirring, commanding, provocative. Looks really good.

I saw no Clinton bashing, just an image of Clinton. As to McCain's comments (who many would say is barely a Republican) I would like to hear the context within which they were made.

I especially enjoyed the quote "It is nowhere written that the American empire goes on forever." What the HELL does that mean and who said it? If that isn't some idiot who wants to see the U.S absorbed into some world government, then I don't know what.

I don't argue that huge amounts of money are being made and that everyone involved is not squeaky clean, but if you don't think this is slanted then your eyes are truly closed.

Interesting.

The same document has been shown on tv here in Finland, and not just once but twice. It is really fascinating and recommended viewing for everyone, expect for people who think that everyone who thinks differently from them is a liberal communist.

Hey Vic.

You said:

"but if you don't think this is slanted then your eyes are truly closed."

Those are some pretty strong words from someone who hasn't seen it yet dude.

John,

Good point, bud. It may turn out to be a bi-partisan bash-fest. However I have followed this film a bit via sundance.org and seeing how "Fahrenheit 9/11" did the previous year at Sundance, my gut is telling me how this one is going to go.

Especially in view of quotes like these describing the film:

"The film looks inside the anatomy of the American war machine and moves beyond the headlines about how the Iraq war was waged to the deeper question of why." (Implication: We went to war to specifically to fatten defense contractors bank accounts.)

"Director Eugene Jarecki asks how—and tells why—a nation ostensibly of, by, and for the people has become the savings-and-loan of a system whose survival depends on a state of constant war." (It has nothing to do with Islamo-fascism or Communist Russia, right?)

Best,

Vic

I love that liberals think of McCain as a republican. I sure as hell don't.

I'm making a documentary called, "When Canadians Ruled the Earth." It's 40 seconds long and is one long shot of maple syrup with Dueling Banjos as the accompanying music.

you know i at least try to be fair minded and will give such a film a serious look. it certainly doesnt seem biased....

but calling mccain a republican is like calling An ant eater a vegetarian.
you can get away with it in some circles, but it just isnt true.

America has as much right to go into other countries for their own agenda as any country. every country does. it's just that america actually incites change. and change is never popular.

And i say if a country has the might to play big brother and fails to, THAT is what makes them guilty. There is too much wrong in this world for us all to be isolationist.

but john (and rich, and the rest of you) you know that's just my opinion and as usual, if you disagree with me, i invite you to email me and let me know why. we could have a good discussion about this. I love such discourse, as long as it's friendly and open.

This has been shown on the BBC multiple times...

Why is it not on PBS? Why is it in the theaters? Who's really making the money?

Posted by: Alex Ezell at January 13, 2006 06:34 PM

Nick Fraser of the BBC's Storyville said at INPUT (an international public broadcasting conference I went to) last spring tjat while he didn't expect any US funding for Jarecki's Kissinger doc, he thought he would be able to get support for Why We Fight. They met with PBS, but didn't get any funding.

At the time, he said they were in discussions with POV to
show it. I'm not sure if anything came of it (or when POV will
announce their summer season). So there is a chance we'll see it on PBS.

But still go see it if it plays in a theater near you.

You can find out more about Storyville and sign up for their
newspaper to get a sense of what we all too often don't see at
