Isnt Heathers a teen film? you must like that one John.

I usually respect your opinions John... but this is not acceptable... this looks crap, it will be crap, don't put your credibility on the line John.. just say its crap, you do it for other movies(namely games-to-big screen), so why not these?

That is the exact premise of Shakespears 12th night. So it looks like someone is pulling another ten things I hate about you.

It’s going be bad, no matter what the trailers show they are always going to be bad. The plot looks overly complicated (well from the way they show it in the trailer) and the whole plot doesn’t look clever in any way. It will do well at the box office just with the fact that everyone’s favourite teen Amanda Bynes is in it. There has been an awful rash of these in recent years and unless you had brought the trailer to my attention it would have passed me by quite easily. I could be proved wrong though and the whole thing could be the best teen comedy ever, I wait for a movie blog review of it when it hits theatres.

I'm so tired of these modern teen take offs of a Shakespeare play. 10 Thing I Hate About You was mindless fun, but the others were utter crap. I imagine this one will be just as awful.

pendragon, I agree with you. "Heathers" was brilliant. "Clueless" was also pretty good. "10 Things" was fun to watch, but mostly because it was funny and the actors had excellent comic timing, something Amanda Bynes doesn't have much of.

Vinnie Jones was in the excellent "Eurotrip", which was sort of a teen movie, although not in the same vein as "She's the man".

While I laughed all the way through 'Mean Girls' and think John is a wee bit harsh on it (Linsday Lohan isn't that bad- even thought she was alright in the 'Freaky Friday' redo a few years back) I can see where he's coming from. The only tolerable films with Hilary Duff are the two 'Cheaper By The Dozen' films- but not every film she has will have Steve Martin or Bonnie Hunt.

The jury's still out on Mandy Moore, but it seems she can't be in anything better than 'Walk To Remember'.

Now on a related matter:

Folks, when John dismisses the teen themed films, he is talking about those teen themed films that have cropped up in the past five years or so. We could wish for another film like 'Heathers' or another 'Election'. We could wish for John Hughes to make more films set around high school to show the new generation why we loved 'Breakfast Club' 'Wierd Science' and 'Pretty In Pink'.

But here's the reason why most of today's 'teen drama/comedies' fall on thier butts:

1) Hilary Duff acts with her smile.

2) There's at least one or more characters who talk like a pale imitation of
Spicoli from 'Fast Times At Ridgemont High' {oh, and no theatrical teen film today has even matched THAT film yet-feel free to debate me.}

3) The lead actresses are overworking themselves. They are more concerned about doing
terrible cover songs than about acting. Think I'm kidding? Look at the teen actors who branch out for other parts. See Erika Christensen with a guitar in her hand?

4) Teens are either spolied rotten rich kids and/or wise beyond thier years.

5) The Girl Next Door.

Oh, back in the 80's, there was this one film...

Just One Of The Guys.

I liked some teen movies. I liked Saved and Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants. Both very well done movies. I call them the thinking teen movies.

This movie looks scary to me. I am also not the fan of these types of movies, but Mean Girls was a good flick. That was also written by Tina Fey and she is funny so it might of kinda been luck in a really tallented writter and okay actor kinda way. So who knows I’ll wait to hear what you guys and Ebert says about it and if it is not horrible I will get it on Netflix 2 months later.

I think Amanda Bynes has great comedic timing...check out her what a girl wants and Big Fat Liar...Alot of critics agrees that Amanda Bynes is very talented and that she saves What a girl wants from being a movie that is unwatchable! This girl has appear i sketch comedy shows, and a sitcom her whole life! Tis girl is great I tell you! The movie trailer is so funny! Especially the last part! She is way better than those untalented lohan and Duffy!

This movie is an update of Shakespeare's The Twelfth Night, just fyi. It's like 10 Things I Hate About You was to Taming of the Shrew.
