Revenge of the Sith Takes 2 Top People's Choice Honors

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith took the top 2 People's Choice awards for best Movie Drama, and Best Movie. Let the celebrating... and the complaining begin!

Personally I thought Revenge of the Sith was a lot of fun to watch... I even put it on my top 10 favorite films of 2005 (it came in at #10... you can see the list here), but even I admit the film has it's weaknesses and I can understand how some people hated it. Like I said before... Revenge of the Sith has divided the country almost as much as George W. Bush has.

This is the second 2nd tier award for Revenge of the Sith. Last month the final Star Wars film took the Hollywood Awards Best Film of the year trophy as well. But Star Wars fans... don't get your hopes up for any major nods like Oscars... except obviously for visual effects.

John, I dont think there are too many Star Wars fans (purists or prequels fans) that read The Movie Blog anyway, this is evident from the so many replies I have seen when Star Wars are discussed. So I am expecting more of an all out complaining reply from a lot of of the bashers more than the fans, except of course from myself. ;-)

Personally, I am not expecting any Academy awards for Sith, it was not made to receive those types of awards save for of course Visual Effects and Music, no doubt John Williams should get a nomination. Although I am leaning towards a Supporting Actor nomination for Ian McDiarmid. But Best Picture? Or Best Director? Sith never meant to achieve that so doesnt bother me, as a Star Wars fan.

um, were 5 year olds voting?

I'm a SW fan who reads here regularly, but I think many of my fellow fans take any criticism or praise of the movies waaaaay too seriously. Hardcore fans are the last people you should ask such things, because we're simply too close to have any perspective.

I spent a good part of 2005 hanging off every bit of ROTS news and gossip. I enjoyed the movie way more than I expected to, but does that make it the best film of the year? I honestly don't know. I do know it was far easier for me to enjoy stuff like Batman Begins and Serenity, simply because I didn't have a gigantic pile of expectations and prior knowledge going in. It makes a huge difference, and that's why I don't feel comfortable making quality judgements. I'm certainly not going to gloat because SW won some glorified ballot-stuffing competition...

As most people believe, I also think ROTS will not win or even be nominated for any major Oscars. However, I hope someday George Lucas WILL be recognized for the Star Wars saga that's he's invested at least half of his life making.
Hopefully, a lifetime achievement award will be forthcoming in the next few years. Whether or not you enjoyed the prequels, he has basically invented a legend that not only changed filmmaking, from its production to its marketing aspects, but will be revered for generations.

Remember that these are the "People's" choice awards.
And generally, the "People" are the masses who generally know nothing.

Anyone who's been to my site knows I'm a HUGE SW fan, but no way is it the best film of the year, and certainly not in the DRAMA category!

Did you see what it was up against in the nominees for that category? Batman and Coach Carter. And in the Favorite film category, same nominees except it was "Hitch" instead of Carter. This is why awards shows suck.

I bet there were no stars at the show except the presenters and those that knew they were the winner ahead of time. Please.

'Sith' was the better of the three. That's not saying much though.

I think its unfair for you to say that Pres. Bush has divided the country. I believe one prevailing opinion for people in the know is that it is the far Left (and the media) that has convinced people that Bush is at fault. It's a trick known as "projection".

Sorry, Drewbacca, but someone must tell that to you: you are not a SW fan. As simply as that.

"people are the masses who generally know nothing"

That sentence defines you, guy. People is what allows cinema to exist, nonetheless. You´d better shut up, prepotent... you ARE no less than people.

And John... I remember when you said this movie should win ALL oscars including best doccumentary. How "people" change sometimes...

No need to say more...

Long live Peter!!!!! *winks*

Posted by: Simone at January 12, 2006 02:53 PM

Peter doesn't understand the use of quotes and plural nouns apparently. Always remember that telling someone to shut up when you don't agree with them is a great way to get other people to take what you say seriously.

Posted by: KellTrenzer at January 13, 2006 12:05 AM

Who said for anyone to shut up? You obviously didnt?

Posted by: Simone at January 13, 2006 08:56 AM

no I didn't. and later on I'll explain sarcasm to you.

Posted by: KellTrenzer at January 13, 2006 02:07 PM

KellTrenzer, unlike you, I don´t want to be taken seriously LOL. But I suggest you learn to READ before starting the difficult task of WRITING.

Believe me, the effort is worth while.

Now someone is trying to be funny?

Hi there Peter! ;-)

May the Force be with you!

Someone up there must be offended, as they deleting some of my comments... I can´t believe that happens in this site.

I can´t say I am surprised, though...

Nope... I've looked over the logs and no one has deleted any of your comments.

You type "LOL" to your own comments. Nice. It's the internet pal, no one is taken seriously. You do also understand that you can re-read what you've typed before you post it and not make typos? Just checking.

Posted by: KellTrenzer at January 13, 2006 06:53 PM

Hey KellTrenzer, actually if its abt Star Wars I take it seriously, I have nothing better to do you see. I cant put LOL now, can I just put *winks*?

Posted by: Simone at January 13, 2006 09:42 PM

I wasn't referring to you.

Posted by: KellTrenzer at January 14, 2006 12:36 AM

Touché.

Speaking of Sith, it has also been nominated for the Academy's Best Sound Editing and Best Make Up, I wonder if it will be nominated for Best Score?

It will be a toss up which John Williams score deserve it- Sith, Munich or Memoirs of a Geisha.
