Exodus trailer - A Philippines Epic

I know this isn't "mainstream" movies but tough luck, it's a movie. From the Philippines comes a trailer for a movie called Exodus, from Philippine Director Erik Matte. It looks pretty cool, big, full of effects, and I'm very intrigued.

From Twitch, who can dig up some surprisingly good things, comes the trailer for Exodus, Tale of the Enchanted Kingdom. It's a downloadable Quicktime at 3.1Mb.

You have to watch a little to get into it, and it is very small, but once the action starts you get a kind of feel that has shades of Monkey, X-Men, and even a touch of Stargate, there's just so much in there and it looks like a fun Sword and Sorcery movie. Have a look and see what you think.

Oh, and just one more thing. This is trailer day.

I don't know Richard. Whenever Bong Revilla is onscreen it just has SUCK written all over it. And the film is produced by the makers of an amusement park. If you wanna see the ultimate Bong Revilla film (which stinks btw) watch "Agimat".

i am intrigued with the movie. it sure is a cool one. but i don't think it would be that good especially coz bong and his son are there.

I have just watch the movie and i think that it was nice. It was not like the big budget hollywood fantasy movies because it is pretty obvious that those foreign films have a big advantage in both financial and technological aspects. But,I think that this movie is a good start to make other great Filipino fantasy movies. However, there are a lot of room for improvements. For example, the fight scenes should be longer and the choreography should be improved. One more thing, the chains that was around Iya's wrists should have been tighter and with a cannon ball to make it look more realistic.

well, it was stunningly good, the story, the effects what a blast!
this movie was a few notches away from other local fantasy movie.
a big brek for philippine cinema.
just a comment,i think aubrey didnt portray her role well. she must be tough, but her expressions didnt seems so

Probably the first Filipino film to have figures from Filipino myth (tikbalang, aswang, diwata, santelmo) team up, as shown in the film's poster. That concept got me interested enough to watch this film. However, IMHO, the plot and some of the fight scenes were less satisfying than what I expected. Nevertheless, this film has accomplished a big step for Filipino fantasy films in terms of CGI and showcasing our own culture's folklore.

Are you guys crazy?!?!?! The screenplay and story was sooooooooooo uuuuuugly......!!!! Pilit na pilit!!!! Characterization was confusing!!!! Bong Revilla was OA, at the start, Exodus is like a Braveheart like character leading the masses against impossible demonlike soldiers, suddenly somewhere in between the epic, he looses confidence in himself not knowing how to lead his "Fellowship of the Ring" towards success. I was sooooo disappointed because YES the effects were GREAT!!! the character designs were nice. But everything else sucked!!!Finally something to be proud of, we have been ok at drama movies and even some dramatic comedies but I'd like to see a good pinoy fantasy flick. And what was behind the name of the character Exodus? It could have been something. Do they know why it's called that from the Bible? It could have been a nice subplot or something. All I can say was sayang....but it's a step towards something better. Wrong name, bad actor, loose screenplay.

What makes a movie "good" or "great" is its story. CGI effects and other visual effects are good for nothing if the story is weak... And not only was the storyline weak, there were tremendous continuity problems as well... for example: in one scene Exodus is riding his white horse and then in subsequent scenes his white horse is nowhere to be found... then all of a sudden, Exodus is riding his white horse again?... and then next he and the rest of the group is found walking (slowly) to their destination.

Little things like that kill the movie going experience, because you sit there watching it, and the small continuity problems like that hit you in the face like a brick. So, instead of the visual effects that will be engraved in my memory, it is the small continuity errors that I remember most, because I am sitting there wondering... "What happened?"... or "How come?"...

Ok, fine, Philippine Cinema may have taken a giant step forward with its "Visual Effects" effects. However, with this movie Philippine Cinema has taken 2 steps backwards with its lack of effort in the most important aspect of moviemaking.... Storyline and Continuity.

Other equally important aspects of "good" filmmaking were also overlooked for the sake of "showing off" the CGI visual effects... and those were:

1. Music
2. Dialog
3. Sound
4. Scene Pacing
5. Useless Characters: Tikbalang (no purpose in the movie) and speaking of no purpose in the movie... you can also include, aside from the Tikbalang, the other "Encantos". The way I see it, Exodus, could have defeated the enemy all by himself.

But don't get me started on those topics. For now I'll just leave it as that.

If you want my honest opinion. Do not watch this movie! It's a waste of time and money.

P.S.

Because of this movie... I have "sumpa" that I will never ever watch another Filipino Movie ever again. (period)

the movie is a trash!!

they researched pretty good on the names of the characters
but they lack a good story line and goes also to the production set and designs are very poor.

i was so disappointed when watching it..
and after that i watched Enteng Kabisote which makes my day good again.

The makers just focused on the film's visual effects. but the effects was just impressing at the start of the movie. they forgot about the story. it was boring really. i was just yawning the whole time i was in the cinema. and of all the actor, why Bong Revilla? good thing they gave me free tickets to enchanted kingdom.

sa tingin ko ok nman ung movie, kya nga lng sobrang atensyon yung binigay nila sa visual effects, nakalimutan n nila ung takbo ng story

when i saw the trailer, i thought the movie is a promising one, considering the visual effects they put into it.

when i watched it, i was dissappointed. because all the highlights of the movie are in the trailer. you can say that you just have to watch the trailer and don't bother watching the movie.

Why? as previously stated in some comments:
1. the story is weak (you can see that it is a mix of Lord of the Rings, Stargate, and some other movies)

2. It focused more on the visual effects, the "cinematic" shots which are irrelevant to the story

3. Dialogue is weak. There's a long pause between the "supposedly" intense talk between Exodus and the character portrayed by Iya.

4. Shots are too looong..

5. Should have build up the characters more, especially of the engkantos.

6. Still wondering why do they have to put that effect on Paolo Bediones' voice making it harder to listen to..

On the positive side, it is indeed a milestone in Philippine Cinema. I'm just hoping that they made it even better so their efforts will not be in vain.

The good thing is, there's a free enchanted kingdom ticket!

Enteng Kabisote is a much better film than Exodus. It is more entertaining.

Just my two cents...
