Chris Rock won't be back for Oscars

ChrisRock2.jpgThe news has come through that comedian Chris Rock won't be returning to the Oscars this year. Awww, shame.

From Yahoo news:

"He is not hosting the Academy Awards," the comedian's publicist, Matt Labov, said Friday in a brief statement e-mailed to The Associated Press. He did not elaborate. Labov told The New York Times that Rock didn't want to do the show "in perpetuity" but would "like to do it again down the road."...

...The 2005 telecast was Rock's first as host. He drew younger viewers, but his barbs skewering stars like
Jude Law, Tobey Maguire and others alienated some members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

I can't say I'm sorry, I don't find the guy funny and I never thought he was right to host the Oscars, he doesn't have the right attitude or demeanour for it. Oh, and before accusations are thrown, no I'm not racist, check the reasons mentioned in the statement before.

So who would you like to see host the next Oscar ceremony? Or would you rather Rock did come back for this?

This news will make John's day. LOL

Bring Billy Crystal back, he was the best host ever!

How about they promote Ellen DeGeneres up from the Emmys ?

Both good options. I still say Stephen Fry.

An English presenter at a predominantly American crowd? No offense but would they get the dry English humor you think? I do like Stephen Fry tho.

Billy Crystal and Steve Martin are both terrific hosts. One of them should come back.

The only funny thing about Chris Rock is watching a short, rail-thin black guy with a bad goatee prowling onstage like he's some gangster. Fuuuuuuuuuny.

I like Chris rock myself ... can't remember him ever acting like a gangster myself ...

I actually didn't think Rock "sucked" as host of the Oscars last year... I'll give credit where credit is due... but I didn't think he was very good either.

Oh goodness... I would rather have Rock than Ellen any day of the week.

I want Whoopi.

Chris Rock is one of the most talented comedians ever...that being said i didn't think he was a good choice for Oscar host...

billy crystal is the best choice...it would be good to get Letterman back too

i agree with the above poster...

rock is one of the funniest commedians around.... next to dave chapell he is perhapse the funniest man alive for my money.

BUT... he doesnt have the stature or the demenor to be an oscar host. that takes class . that is something Rock has, self admittedly, little of.

while i think that shouldnt take away from his ability to entertain, i also say that it's good on his part that he's not making such a fuss about being "dumped".....

I thought he was funny when he hosted. His voice when he gets excited is hilarious even if his jokes arent funny!! I say bring him back later on down the road...hell, he didnt do half as bad a job as P. Diddy, or whatever his name is now, did at the VMAs...now that was just a punishment to watch.

What, are you implying that the long standing ovations for poor oppressed Chris Rock during last year's show might have been insincere, empty Hollywood posturing? Oh, now my illusions have been shattered. Oh, woe.

It seems sad that you have to follow up a statement that you don't like Chris Rock with a statement that you're not a racist.

And yet in today's world I guess it's necessary.

When did the world become a place where any criticism can be interpreted as a backhanded racist remark?

Can't Chris Rock just suck because he sucks and not because he's black?

Posted by: Snaithbert at December 12, 2005 07:04 PM

Yeah Shaithbert I agree, but the last time we brought up this subject that's what happened!

I think that Chris Rock was an good host for the Oscars..not only is he hilarious, but he brings something to the show that I think has been lacking in the past. Maybe the reason why people are excited to see him go, is that they're just ready for something new. Personally, I think he's great and could definitley produce another great show if he was back to host again this year.
