The Hitcher remake continues

Hitcher.jpgI still shake my head at some of these remakes, I mean we all knew you couldn't top the original Pink Panther, and I think we're all agreed that you can't beat the original The Hitcher - I mean the sequels showed us that alone! Still, some people want to try.

We had the news way back of the remake possibly starring Sam Rockwell as well as casting Julian McMahon as well...who knew. Associating a big name with a role does not make a good movie. Anyway the folks over at Dark Horizons have news from the Producers - no not the movie or stage show!

First-time director Dave Meyers is already set to direct, but there hasn't been any casting announced. [Brad] Fuller and [Andrew] Form deny rumors that Sam Rockwell is attached, but the producers do say that the film will be bigger in scope and budget than their previous projects.

Wooo...yeah. That just fills me with hope, enthusiasm and a dasire to cry.

"First-time director"

Is there any bigger kiss of death?

Fuller and Form should get a collective kick in the nuts every time they announce they're doing a remake of a film that was perfect first time round.

Remaking The Hitcher? Rutger Hauer is The Hitcher like he's Roy Batty. There's no want or artistic need for it, no demand for it.

Just lazy greed. Plain old-fashioned lazy greed, Uwe Boll style.

At least they could try to get Eric Red out from whatever rock he's under, and get him to direct the remake. He did write the original, after all.

"Bigger in scope"? What the hell? They don't think the original had a big scope?
The villian chased the protag up and down the Southwest US! And yes, Stuart. There is no need for this. But it isn't Uwe Boll style.

Think more like....Michael Bay...

I want to see the movie in which Rutger Hauer goes nuts and starts taking out studio execs. With a little C. Thomas unleashing the pent up Pony Boy anger he has held in all his adult life.
