Hayden Christensen In Penelope

Hayden Christensen is a fine actor. Don't let his portrayal of Anakin Skywalker (a film in which he acted in front of a green screen 80% of the time with a director who doesn't really care about actor's performances). If you have any doubts, just go rent yourself a copy of "My Life As A House" and see what I'm talking about (Hayden Christensen was actually nominated for a Golden Globe for his role in that).

So it's nice to see Christensen quickly moving out from his Star Wars role and into the rest of his career. Next up is a film called Penelope in which he stars along side Reese Witherspoon and Christina Ricci. The good folks over at Empire give us this quick synopsis:

The movie tells the story of a young woman (Ricci) born with the face of a pig who has to shatter a family curse and find love. Shooting is planned for January in the UK.
Sounds like it has a fairytale feel to it... not to mention a pretty solid cast. I'll wager Hayden Christensen will be around for a long long time.

I haven't seen the "My life as a house" so I cannot really offer my opinion. However, the plot sounds nice as a romantic fairy tale but I have a feeling it will get a more like "Legally Blonde" kinda of a vibe.

By the way and out of curiosity, in the pretty solid cast part, did you count Reese as well?

Cheers,
Stam

Hey there Stamoz,

Yeah, I actually do include Witherspoon in there. After seeing her performance in Vanity Fair (an ok film) my respect level for her jumped about 30 points. Despite her choice of films... this chick has acting chops.

I really liked his acting in Star Wars. Considering so much of it was on blue/green screen, he really conveyeda lot of emotion in the character.

Absolutely loved him in "Shattered Glass" and "Life as a House".

He was great in Life As A House and in Shattered Glass. He actually is a very good actor. I wonder why are these criticts so eager to bury him as an actor? Because of SW???!!
And Reese was very good in Vanity Fair, I think she's a fine actress too.She looks natural when acting.

I do admire Hayden's choice in roles on the side from SW. He seems smart to take smaller, lower budget roles that can prove his talent instead of only taking high-profile roles in blockbusters.
