Cameron Diaz in the Sound of Music?

Preposterous idea, and you know that remakes always start with these off the wall rumours, well this one is wild. Julie Andrews is tipping Cameron Diaz as her replacement for a future remake of the Sound of Music!

She does say "if the movie is ever remade", but it's actually such a crazy idea you could actually see it happening! From Yahoo News.

Okay, so let's imagine that they are crazy enough to remake this movie, probably set in Bosnia and updated to modern day, some new Hip-Hop songs added and a couple of Rap numbers - oh, better get a Rapper signed up for Christopher Plummer's part - then we could cast Diaz in Andrews place...

...Oh sweet lord. What a load of rubbish.

Richard, are you sure about this? The stories I've read say that they are making a STAGE version of The Sound of Music, not a theatrical remake.

No Richard is unfortunately correct.

Julie Andrews on the other hand, couldn't be more wrong. And should be shot for encouraging talk of remakes.

The news in the US is that they're going to do another Theatre production of the play and turn it into a reality tv show. The premise is to find a new "Julie Andrews".

God - I hate reality tv.....

No, she hasn't said there is going to be any, just "if there was" it should star Diaz in her role.

End the damned remakes already.

I think this is because Julie Andrews has worked with Cameron in Shrek 2. I don't remember Cameron singing there though? Surely she can still take singing lessons in time for the production? Please dont throw anything at me, I am still trying to stay calm but deep inside I am really LIVID about this news.

*Simone throws something that eventually breaks her windows*

Let's play along with this gossip anyway, I wonder who would be a brilliant Captain Von Trapp?

Silly, this is all getting too silly.

Cameron Diaz can't sing! And she's a bland actress. IF this movie were ever to remade I would stay far far away from it.

Posted by: Meli at November 30, 2005 17:23

If you understand Julie's polite double talk, she's really saying when she says Cameron Diaz would be a good Maria if a Sound of Music Remake would occure...........What she REALLY mean is, they will do a movie remake when Pigs Fly!

Hell a good source has it that she doesn't even like Cameron.

So relax...There will be no remakes....And Julie's not on crack...nor is she going senile.

Now if it *was* veiled sarcasm... that's funny.

Posted by: Stuart @ Cinema Blend at November 30, 2005 19:06

Julie Andrews is one smart cookie. She knows a remake would never be better than the one in which she starred, and by naming CD, it's a given. If it were really going to happen, directors would choose a REAL actress who can REALLY sing, like Rachel Youngberg, the 23-year-old DIVA phenom who sparks on film like fireworks. If so, the talk could be considered serious.

i liked the idea first when i heard scarlett johanson was gonna star in it...but i dont think they should remake it..its a piece of art..u dont re-paint the mona lisa. its retarded, come up with your own originals..geez people!

Posted by: Marla Singer at December 02, 2005 02:21

Scarlett Johansson can sing?

Posted by: Simone at December 02, 2005 05:14
