re: bad animation category?
"bad year"?

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

this year isnt any better than most other years. dont forget Jimmy Neutron was nominated a couple years ago, and that Shrek, which I still say is NOT a good movie, won.

Wallace and Gromit won Oscars for its shorts before, and will win this year. It is deserving, and if it was a bigger hit you'd probably not even think about it twice.

1) I agree with Wallace and Gromit being the major contender. I think Steamboy also has a chance. I'll say Corpse Bride in third. But yes, everything else has been dreck. In fact, I think someone at Fox should see this list, think it over, and blow everyone out of the water by moving " Ice Age 2" from early 2006 to the end of the year.

2) "Superman Returns" - yes, having the late Brando's voice is a nice touch in the teaser trailer. But still, you're right. It's nothing special. With a budget of, um, 'packaged' proportions, I would think that Singer and crew would have done a lot better. It's not as bad as the Terminator 3 teaser when that was out a few years back, but the lack of creative thinking is the same. Maybe it's Warners, who are into underwhelming. They should have hired the folks who made the fanf film.

3) Smoking ban/rating in films- pathetic. I can understand where the concern is coming from. Some people do imitate actors and celebs. Some of them are influenced by films they see. But what about characters who smoke and in the course of the film, quit or are in the process of quitting? What about period pieces where back then, smoking was the norm?

I don't smoke, I don't date ladies who do, I don't allow friends to smoke in my car.
But when I rent films or go to the cinema, and I see characters having a puff I'm not going to bitch. Sometimes cigarettes are used for dramatic effect. Mood, lighting, character...
etc.

I'm also not getting second hand smoke from the film and theatres are a no-smoking enviornment- what's the problem here? Look, should there be a warning label beside/with the PG or R? What bout scenes where they show people drinking and get behind the wheel? What about the use of pot, where in a PG-13 film like Drew Barrymore's 'Never Been Kissed', one cannot have a good time unless they get high- and meant for comedic effect?

And people are worried about a little pack of Camels? Please. Someone's way off the mark here.

another boring audio edition.. yaaaawn

you'd think that after a 2 week hiatus, everyone would have plenty to say and discuss.

i still think you should sack Doug Nagy as ur co-host. he's killing your show!

Weak? Wallace & Gromit? Geez, you've been playing WoW so long your brain is fried.

Big point here, and you've made this before. The award is for THE YEAR. Not for comparing with last year, or the year before.

W&G; is superb, I can't believe you're even saying things like "pathetic" and then not apologising for clumping W&G; in with that.

Vote Richard, vote Richard! *winks*

"The award is for THE YEAR. Not for comparing with last year, or the year before."
if you made a took a look at a list of every animated film that has been 'up for nomination' since they started handing out the award, you'd be mocking the category for each year.
I hated Corpse Bride too, but I know enough people and critics loved it (including your co host John) that in combination with the fact that W&G; is one of the best reviewed films of the year, period, that calling it a 'weak year' is well, not very accurate. you stated it so boldly like it was a fact instead of an opinion

the big problem with an 'animation' oscar is that there're so few animated movies released every year that it's not hard for average to good movies to get nominated. In my opinion, they shouldn't have an oscar for animation at all. Just think how many animated movies were released this year.. umm.. how many were there?? I'd say maybe 9 max.
How many movies can get nominated? 5

get my point? it's pretty freaking dumb to even have the category.

holy crap these Wallace and Gromit figures are incredible!

John point of consideration. The teaser was made for the average joe not us internet geekhounds who sniff and snuffle up every tidbit of info. I bowed and ended watching this and like Doug was left very impressed. The outer space shot ruled - something they could never do with the originals. I am officially pumped for this now.
