V For Vendetta Status

V for Vendetta was pushed back to a March 17th 2006 release date without much explanation as to why. Since then, we haven't really heard much about the production... and when nothing much is being said, rumours start to abound.

I've heard whispers that the movie was canned, pushed back to 2007, that Portman refused to finish the film and a whole bunch more extreme ideas. But usually the most simple explanation is the correct one.

The good folks over at FlimForce are reporting that everything is fine in V-ville. Here's what they had to say:

An anonymous studio source told Sci-Fi Wire the change was necessary to "accommodate the movie's post-production schedule." Inquiring with additional sources about the current status of the Vendetta, IGN FilmForce was informed the production is moving along fine. The release date change should not be interpreted to mean the production has run into trouble. Creative decisions were made that affected the length of post-production, and the movie simply isn't finished. UK special effects houses Cinesite and Double Negative, both having created FX for the Harry Potter films, have produced terrific visuals for Vendetta. A source adds that the shots were delivered on time.
So there's the official line. Looks like everything is fine and moving along according to schedule. However... having said that... I still won't be surprised at this point if we hear in December that V For Vendetta has been pushed back again. I've got nothing to base that on... it's just a gut feeling.
