Tony Scott leaves Deja Vu

TonyScott.jpgThrough Coming Soon from Variety is the news that Tony Scott has left the movie Deja Vu, the reason is worrying:

A spokesman for Scott said his decision to leave was strictly the result of logistical and scheduling problems that arose after Hurricane Katrina swamped New Orleans, the film's key location.

Despite Scott's departure, which became official the same day the pic was originally scheduled to begin shooting, Disney and Bruckheimer said they're solidly behind the project, and star Denzel Washington remains attached, pending approval of a script and director.

That's a terrible reason for leaving, and one that paints Scott in not such a great light. I would hope that he's been misquoted here and that the spokesman said something else highlighting that if Scott had tried to do the movie then it would have clashed with his next and that this production would have to be delayed until after...blah blah. Not that the hurricane was an inconvenience and he wanted out!

Could also be viewed as a practical reason. He might have scheduling conflicts if there's a delay. Both of the Scott's are pretty bloody minded.

Yeah... these guys all work on pretty tight schedules. If the Hurricane pushed back production on a film... and Scott has a prior obligation to be on another film on a certain date... then it's probalby understandable that he bows out of this one.

Unless there's somthing else to it.
