Gerard Depardieu to retire

GerardDepardieu.jpgThat's according to the man himself. From IMDB:

Paris newspaper Le Parisien reports the Green Card actor told the cast and crew of Michou D'Auber on Friday, it was his last ever day of filming. He said, "I'm about to stop filming! I'm a guy that is leaving. And for once, I'm not drunk! I've got nothing to lose. I did 170 films, and I've got nothing else to prove. I'm not going to keep up like this for ever. I finish in style with film director Thomas Gilou, who has made lost of successes, and has made a really good film with this Michou D'Auber. I retire in style with this film. It's wonderful."

Well that's sad news indeed, I just recently saw 36 Quai des Orfèvres and it's an awesome film with a superb performance from the man hiimself, it shows that he's far from finished in acting.

He's had some memorable roles and he's such a great on screen character, filled with charisma. Will anyone else miss him? What's your favourite role of his (please not Green Card!)?

Ending in style with 'Michou d'Auber'? I thought he was set to play Obelisk in Asterix at the Olympic Games, announced for 2007...

Ow well, we all know that actors tend to feel old and feeling they have to retire when the good scrips keep falling into other people's hands. He'll be back.

I've read elsewhere that he would retire, but would still do the Asterix movie.

Favourite role of his : Cyrano de Bergerac.

I just read that too in the Guardian newspaper. It appears he doesn't want to say that fulfilling his obligation to Obelix in Asterix is worthy of being his swan song!
