Creature from the Black Lagoon remake

BlackLagoon.jpgI groaned when I first saw this from Yahoo, more remake rubbish I thought, and of not a particularly strong movie, just one that's become a fond movie over time.

Then I thought, Brett Eisner did Sahara, and that was a lot of fun...

Part of Universal's rich legacy of black-and-white monster movies...The studio began developing updates of its creature features after the success of 1999's "The Mummy."

Gary Ross, whose father, Arthur Ross, was a writer on the 1954 original, is producing the remake...writer-director of "Seabiscuit" and "Pleasantville" -- wrote the current draft of the "Creature" screenplay...

...Eisner said in an interview. "We see it as an aggressive sci-fi horror film in the vein of 'Alien' or like John Carpenter's 'The Thing.' We want to elevate the source material."

Now that did make me sit up and take notice a little more, and perhaps that you might be interested in this too. Comparisons to Alien and The Thing are quite loft indeed, but it doesn't sound like an offhand comment. Considering the success and scale of The Mummy, this actually has potential. Thoughts?

It be better they came up something original, but if they're going to re-hash an old movie at least it sounds like they're going to do something cool.

I really liked this movie as a kid and it's even fun to watch on occasion now - cheesy effects and all.

A 'Black Lagoon' update has floated around for the last fifteen years; all I can say is I'm happy that Universal gave the project over to people other than Stephen Sommers.
But, hell, yes! I too enjoyed 'Sahara', a better film than I thought it would be.

Bring on the Gill Man!

I think remaking the Creature from the Black Lagoon is the worst idea ever. Remakes usually suck and this one will most certainly suck. All this director is going to do is add some explosions, a hot babe and some special effects. Good special effects doesn't make a good movie, the story and script does. Just because this director's father helped to create the original 1954 version doesn't mean his kid should be able to create it. Stephen Sommers should make it. He does a good job recreating old movies. Old movies shouldn't be recreated. Especially the creature from the black lagoon. All they'll do is destroy it.

I think is should be remade !!!!! Yes and why not they have done everything thing else why not this. Why not ask for some in put from the great Stephen King on this one also. Kingdom Hospital was AWSOME and I think his colaberation on this would set it off perfectly!

i think Peter Jackson should remake it if anyone is going to. Peter Jackson is one of the most brilant directors in Hollywood. Even his movies from the late 80's and early 90's were good. They were good but bad. Bad Taste and Dead Alive were both really bad movies but were done extremly well. Peter Jackson's remake of King Kong is going to rule. King Kong is one of my most favorite movies. The guy that directed the one in the 70's that movie sucked but the original was phnonemnal. Peter Jackson adds special effects and some action but its all in good taste. Peter would add some action but the action he would add would be withuin reason. It would be tasteful. So it seems like i've been rambling about nothing this whole thing but i feel that Peter Jackson does an awesome job making movies and can make pretty good remakes. So if anyone was to direct the new Creature from the Black Lagoon it should be Peter Jackson. He rules and so does the Gill Man! Long Live the GILL MAN!

YES, THE CREATURE SHOULD BE CGI. BUT TWO IMPORTANT FACTORS
COME INTO PLAY:

THE CREATURE DESIGN SHOULD BE MAINTAINED, OTHERWISE IT'S
NOT THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, JUST ANOTHER CREATURE
RIP-OFF....AND WE'VE ALREADY BEEN THAT ROUTE.

THE FILM SHOULD BE SET IN THE 50S...THAT'S PART OF THE
ORIGINAL'S CHARM.

JUST COMBINE THE ORIGINAL 3 MOVIES, TURN THEM INTO ONE KICK-ASS
FLICK. AS A CREATURE FAN (FOR 40 YEARS NOW) I THINK I KNOW
WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. BUT MAYBE YOUNGER FANS ARE LESS
ATTACHED...WHAT ABOUT IT?

Not all remakes suck! I'm so tired of hearing that! I think the Texas chainsaw massacre, and King Kong remakes have shown us that! There is always a chance that this movie could be awesome, with the right director and script. As far as the Gill Man himself I think the best bet would be to go with a man in a suit. We have seen in movies like Jeepers Creepers, and Underworld that it can work. Going cgi for the creature would make him seem like a cartoon. I think something close to the Gill Man from Monster Squad would be cool!

GOOD TO GET A RESPONSE (THANKS DEMON)...yeah, I KNOW WHAT
YOU MEAN ABOUT CGI...I GUESS I MEAN...GUY IN SUIT-ENHANCED
BY CGI GILLS,ETC. FOR ADDED REALISM....

JUST READ THE REVIEW AND SUMMARY OF THE "CREATURE" SCRIPT
GOING AROUND...GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!

I UNDERSTAND THAT THE OLD CREATURE FLICKS ARE SLIGHTLY
SIMILAR TO "KING KONG"- THAT'S WHY I SUGGEST THAT ALL 3
ORIGINAL FLICKS SHOULD BE COMBINED....

LET'S SEE... FOSSIL IS FOUND...EXPEDITION GOES TO AMAZON...
LEGEND OF CREATURE REVEALED...CREATURE IS DISCOVERED...
FALLS FOR GIRL...PREVENTS SCIENTISTS FROM LEAVING...THEY
FIGHT BACK...CREATURE IS BURNT BADLY...SCIENTISTS TAKE HIM
BACK TO CIVILIZATION...EXPERIMENT ON HIM...BREAK HIS SPIRIT...
TURNS HIM INTO LAND CREATURE...CREATURE STILL LOVES GIRL AND
BEGINS TO REGENERATE GILLS,ETC....ESCAPES....TERRORIZES
FLORIDA...FINDS GIRL...KIDNAPS HER AND DIES FOR HIS EFFORTS.

AM I RETREADING....OR AM I JUST BEING FAITHFUL TO 3 ACKNOWLEDGED
CLASSICS? THE BEST REMAKES HAVE RESPECTED THE ORIGINALS...
JUST IMPROVED WHAT NEEDED IMPROVEMENT...SET IT IN THE 50s...
KEEP THE ORIGINAL CREATURE DESIGN...JEEZ!!! MAKE IT SCARY...
SEXY, ACTION PACKED AND NOSTALGIC...IT IS THE 50s MONSTER
CLASSIC...ISN'T IT?

RESPONSES PLEASE....
