Paul Bettany & Lachy Hulme: The Only 2 Considered for the Joker

PaulBettany.jpgApparently Paul Bettany and Lachy Hulme are the only 2 actors being considered for the part of the Joker in the next installment of Batman [ Via: Freeze Dried Movies ].

"Australian actor Lachy Hulme (pronounced "Lock-ee Hewm") and British thesp Paul Bettany are the only actors that BATMAN producers are considering for the role of The Joker - at the moment." They also explain, "One of these two sources also told us that screen tests will indeed take place this fall, although it was unclear if one or both of these actors are testing."
This subject has been covered previously here on The Movie Blog a number of times, and the opinions on who whould be the best fit vary from personality to personality. If this is fact and the final two candidates are Bettany and Hulme, I would prefer to see Paul Bettany take on the challenge.

Bettany is the type actor who can steal the show very easily in my opinion. A Knight's Tale, A Beautiful Mind and Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World are three films which come to mind were Bettany contributed a great deal to the success of the stories. He is a convincing character, likable and sincere. He compliments his fellow actors and can make a bad scene seem not so bad at all.

Throughout the duration of this debate, who have you favored from the cast of rumors to be?
Now, with this new piece of information, which of the two could you see being the most affective Joker?

Keep in mind... that Christopher Nolan has not been locked up to direct the sequel yet. Until Nolan signs up for sure... there will be ZERO casting done for important roles. And rest assured... whoever Nolan wants for The Joker... Nolan will get.

John, the article over at Freeze dried does indicate that Nolan will be returning.

Oh I have no doubt that Nolan will be back. But he is not signed yet. Untill it's in stone... no real casting decisions will be made.

C. r. i. s. p. i. n.

G. l. o. v. e. r.

And I'm not going to see it if it's otherwise.

Oh come on Joseph... who do you think you're kidding? I REALLY want Glover too... but I don't think anyone is going to avoid seeing this film just because 1 particular actor doesn't get the role.

:P

Cheers!

Ha, Glover is not getting it, and as funny as that would be, I have no problem at all with Bettany, good actor. And as long as Bale is still doing his crazy-ass version of Batman, I will be there.

Lachey Hulme resembles Sean Penn in many ways. I don't see Bettany taking the role. He's vile, evil, but doesn't come off as a joker type to me.

He looks the role too.

Though my first choice would be Sean Penn, I just don't see him doing it.

I could defintely see Bettany playing the role well. Check out the movie "Gangster Number 1." Bettany plays a young version of "A Clockwork Orange's" Malcolm MacDowell, and he's basically a less poetic version of Alex from CO. He plays a perfect kind of criminal insanity, and as far as I'm concerned, that's exactly what the Joker needs to be.

I don't know anything about the other guy, but if they have any sense they'll grab Bettany, or Glover. They'd both be good.

BETTANY it is.

I also cant wait to see him play Silas in Da Vinci Code, he is supposed to be as chilling!
