London Film Festival 2005 revealed

London Film FestivalThe 2005 Times bfi 49th London Film Festival has arrived, due to run from the 19th October through to the 3rd November this year, and they've just announced their line up. Through Empire:

...opening film of The Constant Gardener and George Clooney's closing film, Goodnight, And Good Luck...

Other films included are Walk The Line; Separate Lies; Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang; The Brothers Grimm; Keane; The Proposition; Elizabethtown; Proof; Sympathy For Lady Vengeance; Everything is Illuminated; The Matador; Murderball; Shopgirl; Mirrormask; Takeshi's, and Hustle and Flow...and that's just some of the bigger names.

It certainly looks like it's going to be a big event, and I really do hope that this event isn't affected by the events in London of late. I hope people have the guts to go and make this one of the biggest years it's had, not only to support the British films there, but also to make a very clear point.

Politics aside, Pierce Brosnan will be speaking, as will Shane Black, Gael García Bernal and even Terry Gilliam! Some superb talent, particularly Brosnan and Gilliam. Then there's the host of people who'll be at their premieres...oh I wish I was going!

Check out the official site. If anyone would be willing to sponsor my time off work I'd happily go and check some of these out! If you're in London, you know where to go.

Pass on the Gilliam film, Tideland is a real let-down, not a complete failure, but its not a successful film. Judging from the films I've been catching in Toronto, I highly recommend THE PROPOSITION, WALK THE LINE, SYMPATHY FOR LADY VENGEANCE and TAKESHI'S (if you are in the mood for a being-john-malkovich type experience...if you are unfamiliar with Kitano "Beat" Takeshi, do not bother with TAKESHI's as almost all of the jokes will be unfathomable)

I'm a bit of a Gilliam fan, so I'll see Tideland even if Gilliam himself says it's rubbish! I thought The Brother Grimm was good, some iffy CGI, and some of the dubbing of the bit part actors was quite right, but the rest was fun, and I thought Damon and Hedger worked really well. In fact Hedger was really good playing against type. Ohh, and the bit with the kitten in the torture chamber...pure Gilliam! Wish they'd release Munchausen and the Fisher King Special Edition DVDs...
