Joss Whedon film update

whedon2.jpgApart from working on Wonder Woman, there's not much else for Joss Whedon to do at the moment. So that's probably why Coming Soon are reporting that he's picked to Direct a new script he's just written called Goner:

Universal Pictures has acquired Goner, a fantasy thriller spec script Joss Whedon (Serenity) wrote and will direct, says Variety...

..."It's the story of a young woman's journey that involves a great deal of horror and some heroics," he said. "It's certainly darker than 'Serenity,' and there are a lot of left turns along the way. It is something I had in mind for a while, and it just poured out of me when I finished my film."

Oooh. Not giving anything away there. Still, he has the work to complete on Wonder Woman too, something he hasn't even started writing yet. From the site of the "infected computer" pop-ups, Comic Book Movie:

CHUD: What is the schedule for Wonder Woman? Whedon: There's none yet, I'm still writing the script.<

CHUD: So they haven't come to you with some set in stone tentpole date you have to meet?
That's exactly why I took the gig. They came at me with Wonder Woman at the same time they came at me with X-Men, and they both had advantages, but X-Men was all about the schedule and Wonder Woman was all about not having a schedule. Joel Silver said, 'She's waited for 60 years, she'll wait a little longer.'

He says that there's no way he can see them completing that film in time given the scedule, I assume he means the X-Men movie. I think we're all figuring it's not going so well anyway with the rumours.

Once again I'm looking forward to Whedon's next projects, he's certainly a creative who has a great understanding of the audience and a desire to make something good and entertaining.

I'm interested in everything he's gonna work on, but I hope he will leave this new project last. If Serenity does well, there will probably be sequels to work on. There is also the Spike movie. If he doesn't have a fixed deadline for Wonder Woman, I hope he would work on it while doing the other projects also.

Me, except for Serenity which is coming out next week, I'm most looking forward to a Spike movie - I hope Joss will do it before James Marsters becomes a grandpa (he's 43 now).
