Corpse Bride Reviews

Tim Burton's Corpse Bride... here it is. I haven't been looking forward to this at all. In general I'm not a Tim Burton fan. I must admit I did quite enjoy his Charlie and the Chocolate Factory... but 1 movie doesn't not a fan make. Plus, I haven't really thought the trailers to Corpse Bride looked any good either.

Well perhaps I'll be in for a pleasant surprise. The Corpse Bride reviews are coming in and they look REALLY positive right now. Here's what some of the critics have to say:

"A wondrous flight of fancy, a stop-motion-animated treat brimming with imaginative characters, evocative sets, sly humor, inspired songs and a genuine whimsy that seldom finds its way into today's movies."
Kirk Honeycutt, HOLLYWOOD REPORTER

"If his The Nightmare Before Christmas from a dozen years back was a treat for the eyes and mind, Tim Burton's Corpse Bride goes double or nothing by being a delight for the ears and also the heart."
Peter Howell, TORONTO STAR

"As an achievement in macabre visual wizardry, Tim Burton's Corpse Bride has to be reckoned some sort of marvel."
Owen Gleiberman, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

Ok, so if I end up liking 2 Tim Burton films in a row perhaps I'll have to re-think my non-fan position on him. I guess I'll just have to wait and see for myself this weekend. As of right now Corpse Bride is rating an 83% on Rotten Tomatoes... which makes it the critics choice for this week. Time will tell.

I don't understand all the fuss about NIGHTMARE. I found it largely unintelligible. I can appreciate Burton's vision as much as the next person; I guess it's just that, outside of EDWARD SCISSORHANDS, I just don't care for it.

John, didnt you like "Big Fish"? That's one of my fave Burton films.

I did enjoy Charlie and I am so looking forward now to the Corpse Bride.

I didn't find much about the movie that was outstanding. It is a pleasant little movie to see sometime but it's missing any kind of heart. The story line is weak, at best, many of the scenes are mere copies of scenes from other movies, and the ending is just that, the end. You know five minutes into the movie what the rest of the movie will be.

The music is typical Danny Elfman, meaning that he believes the music should drown out the words to the songs.

Beautiful animation, weak (if not boring) story.
