The Dukes of Hazzard Reviews

Also check out Rotten Tomatoes Dukes of Hazzard or FilmForce Dukes of Hazzard

I had no doubt in my mind whatsoever that The Dukes of Hazzard would suck... and suck huge. From the moment I heard that 2 of the 3 main characters were being played by people who aren't even actors (Jessica Simpson and Johnny Knoxville) I knew deep down in my private places that this film had no hope.

Add on top of that the trailers that showed us that the Duke Boys had been turned into 2 idiots. The Dukes of Hazzard was apparently filmed as "Dude Where's my Dukes". I guess the director accidently told Seann William Scott that he was still playing Stifler from American Pie. Hopeless.

So please... no one even pretend that you're surprised that the reviews are coming in REALLY Negative. As of right now, Rotten Tomates has it sitting at 25%. Ouch. And even those few critics that are saying it's ok are saying just that... "it's ok at best". Here's what some of the critics are saying:

"Nowhere to be found here is any of the goofy charm of the original."
Michael Rechtshaffen, HOLLYWOOD REPORTER

"A black hole of a movie without anything original to do or interesting to say. That it isn't outright terrible only makes its utter pointlessness all the more glaring."
Dustin Putman, THEMOVIEBOY.COM

"It's a negation of cinema. You would actually become a better, more complete person by not watching it."
Eugene Novikov, FILM BLATHER

"With no plot, character or dialogue worth experiencing, let alone remembering, the film merely occupies space on the screen and hopes for the best."
Kenneth Turan, LOS ANGELES TIMES

Yeah we all saw this coming from a mile away. I'm going to see it tonight... and as luck would have it I'm currently in Nashville. I'll give you my thoughts on the weekend when I get home. Who knows... maybe my expectations are SOOO low that I might actually enjoy it. Oh yeah... that'll happen.

Well, I saw Dukes at a screening this past Monday (8/1) and I did not think it was that bad at all. I thought it was funny and I was pleasantly surprised. Altho I think that the casting did leave something to be desired, I enjoyed the film. Maybe since I am a college student and think of Super Troopers and Old School as two of my favorite movies then I am more inclined to love this one. I dont think that anyone should hate a movie because of pre-concieved notions of a horrible cast. I dont even like Johnny Knoxville and I thought that he and Sean William Scott were great. Ok, I should mention that I have never seen a Dukes of Hazzard episode, so I just base this on the movie.

I guess that the movie is not being reviewed as a movie but as a comparison to the series?

How does this piece of fodder actually get a 25% on RT?

I'm as puzzled as Meli at how it got that high a rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Ebert did a well written review of the movie where he blasts its misogonist and its racist humor.

Out of curiousity, John, why would you see this movie and waste the money and time, knowing it what a waste of film it is?

Hey there John N,

Ok, there are 2 reasons why I'm seeing this movie even "knowing it what a waste of film it is"

1) Because I basically see almost every movie
2) Because until I see it for myself, I don't actually "know" if it's good or not. I don't JUST go by what other people say or think.

Cheers!

You are a film critic so I understand if you have to see almost every movie. I just hope it's not at the expense of seeing far better ones that don't get the big box office. Looking forward to your review. Who knows? You may go in with such low expectations, it might not be as bad as you think.

I hope Jessica Simpson gets cast as Harley Quinn in BATMAN BEGINS 2.

Overall, I thought the movie was great! It was a little hard a first to get used to characters, but the movie picks up part way into it. The General Lee is back and cool as ever, Daisy is totally hot, and the car chasing sceens are some of the best I've seen.

The only stupid part is Bo and Luke acting like they dont know about the Dixie flag and what it means to them or the south. Of course there had to be at least one mention of the KKK.

We laughed hard at the movie and at ourselves ( southern humor ) b/c that's what southerners can do.

Hey, some people just dont get it.

I saw the movie last night and I was very entertained. The southern accents were a little off ,but the humor was great. The car chases were awesome. These "Duke Boys" were different than the original series ,but isn't that the point of resurrecting an old favorite. I can't wait to buy it.

uh well I dont care what any of the critics said about The Dukes of Hazard, that movie rocked and is now one of my favorite movies. I would definitly pay to see it a second time in theatres, and also buying the movie when it comes out. People are saying that its diffrent from the show the Dukes of Hazard, well duh pretty much every remake is diffrent from the original. I watch the show just about everytime it comes on I love it, even though it and the movie are diffrent. I think people need to forget about the fact that Bo Duke was played by Stifler, that was a whole diffrent movie and people need to quit remembering him in that way. Jessica Simpson wasn't ditsy or airheaded at all I think she played the perfect part as Daisy. All and all the movie was really awesome and I loved the stunts! Everyone should go see it because it really is a GREAT movie.
