Rock speaks on Spy Hunter

SpyHunter.jpgSpeaking of videogame adaptations with a one trick pony plot (see the previous article on Halo release date) there's some news of Spy Hunter is coming from Rock himself. From MTV through Coming Soon:

"'Spy Hunter' is going great," The Rock says. "We've got Stuart Beattie who's writing it right now, who wrote 'Collateral' as well as 'Pirates of the Caribbean,' so he's a great writer, he's got a great take on it. 'Spy Hunter' is one of those movies that we announced almost two years ago and everybody who I run into is like, 'Where's 'Spy Hunter?' It's one of those movies that you cannot get wrong. That's why it's so important that the writing is right, the feel, the tone is right. You see the car, you see [my character] Alec Sects. So it's going to be the real deal once it's done."

Can't go wrong? Well the history of the videogame adaptation has a lot to say on that subject! Still he's right on the script front, just check the other writing credits though:

Stuart Beattie, Michael Brandt, Derek Haas, Zak Penn, Damian Shannon, Mark Swift

Still, all that talent and this is what he has to say on the casting to date:

... just myself and the car, the Interceptor. And that thing is bad. We've already seen some early drawings of it and early renditions of it on video. It just jumps off a cliff, turns into a boat, then into a motorcycle when it comes back on land. It's badass."

Hear that pony clip-clopping along?

I don't really think he's saying that you "Can't go wrong," it looks more to me like he's saying that they had better get it right.

This could be okay. In some ways it is a more promising movie adaptation than many others because there is so little back story. I think it's easier to invent almost an entire story than it is to flesh out one that is only strong enough for a video game.

Plus, I still like the Rock.

I love him from WWE. He's a fox, but he can't act worth shit.

by "can't get wrong" i think he meant something in the tune of "you will never live this one down if you get it wrong."

that's what i thought when i read it. and the rock hasnt sucked in even the worst movies he's been in. at least they have a cool lead. and the transforming vehicle? sounds like a plan to me, joe.

and to further back him up, the original spy hunter had like, no story. you're in a white car and boat. you turn left . right. blow up . dodge cars.

how COULD you mess this up? hahah
