Karl Urban Joins Pathfinder

I'll never forget the first time I saw The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. The first time Karl Urban as Eomer came on the screen the girl I saw the movie with and another girl sitting in the seat in front of me both said at the same time "oh my god". Yeah, Karl Urban is dreamy. But more than that, the guy is great. He was fantastic in Lord of the Rings, he was the only redeeming thing about The Chronicles of Riddick and he was solid in ">The Bourne Supremacy. This guy is going to be BIG in the next 3-5 years. Just watch.

Well now he's just signed up to star in Pathfinder, a new film being directed by Marcus Nispel (Texas Chainsaw Massacre). The good folks over at Cinema Confidential give us this:

20th Century Fox will distribute the film about the Vikings and their discovery 500 years before Columbus. The story focuses on a Viking boy who is left behind and raised by the Native Americans. Years later, a war between the Vikings and the Indians ensue, and the boy becomes a key soldier in the war against the Vikings.
I think this sounds great. Has the chance of being a real epic scale sort of film. But then again... so did Troy and Kingdom of Heaven... and look how those turned out.

Karl Urban did an excellent job in LOTR and was also superb in Bourne Supremacy. His acting skill will continue to open up big roles. I'm not sure about Marcus Nispel's directing, but I dislike the horror genre. Still, look what Peter Jackson has done with LOTR so maybe this Viking epic will be good. Go see 'The 13th Warrior' in the mean time.

Troy and Kingdom of Heaven were decent movies, with some notable flaws. The expectation for a satisfying conclusion like in Gladiator or Braveheart was there, but neither could deliver. In Troy, the audience couldn't choose sides and the war was fought for no legitimate reason (same with Alexander). Kingdom of Heaven had this "problem" in a way, but at least Balian was a solid hero. However, the end result of his efforts were in vain as if it never happend. So yes, they were disappointing but both had some redeeming qualities and solid performances.

I so love this guy! I was one of the women yelling O My God!
Him and David Wenham took my breath away.
I can't wait to see this guy do more movies.

chronicles of riddick is a solid action film.

Also, he was the only redeemable thing? He was completely forgettable and added nothing to the movie.

I did not say "oh my god" until I saw the real Karl on the extended DVD version of ROTK, and I thought how could anyone be so perfectly gorgeous and talented. And I'm still smitten. I think Orlando obscured my view of Karl at first and now Orlando is not even on the radar screen. I am in total agreement that Karl is very talented as can be easily seen in "The Price of Milk". I think he will win an Academy Award if he continues to act in high profile movies. I'm worried, however, about Doom because it looks like a movie that has been done to death--I fear it will be a disappointment.
