Haley Joel Osment as young Indy?

HaleyJoelOsment.jpgHere's a scoop courtesy of ITV through Eddie over at The Indy Experience. It appears that the plan is, if the next grown up Indy film is a success, that the idea of a series of young Indy movies is to be resurrected. Originally the idea was for the role to be filled by River Pheonix, unfortunately that was not to be. However...

The Sixth Sense star Haley Joel Osment will take over as Indiana Jones on the big screen if Harrison Ford's last starring turn as the action archaeologist is a hit.

The 17-year-old actor remains the favourite to play Young Indiana Jones in a string of new movies and would start work as soon as the fourth Indiana Jones film is released in 2007 if he is awarded the part.

A source tells website Moviehole.net, "Haley Joel Osment was in talks, in 2000, to do a variation on Young Indy.

"At 17, he's the right age for the role."

That is interesting. Do you think he's a good choice? What are the chances of a series of young Indy movies, is there an appetite for them?

if they are ever able to get the 4 film off the ground i think it could be very interesting. We all know he can act but can he do the action? If so I think I might be looking more forward to him than to the regular indana

I agree. As long as he can do the action I think it's great casting.

This youngster ( to my old 27 ) is definitely the ( hold on to your hats. i'm about to piss off some of you ) best actor of his age bracket i have ever seen. and he doesnt exude one scent of negativity or other unlikeable traits of "today's" youth.

the ONLY thing i have to say is that he would need to work a bit to give the same macho appeal that we associate with indy.

Dr. Jones doesnt need to LOOK buff... he just has to act it... and i think he could truthfully make it his role for a good 25 years.

best idea to come out of hollywood since Cecil B. Demile remade the ten commandments. yeah. that long ago.

zzzzz
maybe they should forget the harrison ford movie and just go to the young indy movies. they have been planning the next indy movie for what 20 years? if they dont step on the gas, haley joel osment will be 50 years old by the time the "young indy" script is ready.

I really dont think they should be doing more indiana movies I THINK THEY SHOULD COME UP WITH NEW AND ORIGINAL STORIES!!!! but if they're gonna do it, i think thats a great choice cuz i havent seen him in a while and i think he's really talented, and he was sooo adorable way back in forest gump..aw...(tear) that movie was so sad.. anyways...ya

I like the idea. Haley has always been consistently good in all his films and it's about time the guy gets a franchise of his own. =o) He'll go great as the young Indy!

First of all, I would say that doing more movies about an existing (and wildly popular) character does not mean that they won't be original.

Secondly, Osment? Really? Does anyone see this kid as a cynical, roguish adventurer? He's a fine actor, but Harrison Ford, River Pheonix and Sean Patrick Flannery all brought a similar attitude to the role that made me believe they could all be the same person. Osment...I just don't see it. Maybe I'll be proven wrong, though.

He's 17 already?!? When did the Sixth Sense.... Or am I.... Is this the.... Or does he.... Whoa.

(ignore me :P)

I have to agree that I just DO NOT see Haley in this role at all. He's too waifish for me to play that kind of part. He's a fine actor no doubt, but I don't see him pulling this off. Just one man's opinion.

As if we all were dumbstruck when H'wood attempts to get the young James Bond crapfest on the fast track, now this.

Osment is a fairly good young actor. I can also see where there migght be some merit to this idea. He worked with Spielberg before ("AI", right?) but the TV series based on Indiana Jones covered most, if not all of the ground pre- "Temple Of Doom" (remember: Doom was a prequel to Raiders) and ...well...after Indy 4...

It should be Indy 5 and 6 with another actor taking over from Ford. Aaron Eckhart, maybe? Or how 'bout Sean Patrick Flannery - who played young Indy in the series?

Well, no matter. It's tough enough deciding what Lucasfilm/Spielberg will do on Indy 4 to really get bent out of shape with this crazy stuff.

i think he'll be great as young indy hes good looking and he can act i would watch it!

I don't see it. He's a good actor but really Indiana, no. Not that Jones has to be played by an amazing actor but I agree with the macho take on it. I would like more Sean Patrick Flannery movies. Boondock Saints 2 is filming or done by now so why not use him as Indiana? I even liked him more than River Phoenix. I still found it hard to believe that Phoenix would grow up to be Indiana Jones. Flannery was perfect and is the only other Indiana.
