Conan The Barbarian To Return
Conan The Barbarian is coming back! That's one person happy just with the title, eh Doug? The news sounds good on this one though, and although it won't be starring Arnold Schwarzenegger it looks set to go ahead. Personally I think that's a shame, I know, I know, he's too old and he's lost loads of his size...but I think the guy is superb at what he does, and to see him in a Conan The Barbarian movie would have been wonderful, even if it was to hand over the baton.
Regardless of the no Schwarzenegger presence, Warner Brothers are set to go ahead...as are others. Check this out from Moviehole:
Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Warners production president Jeff Robinov, who with director Chris Nolan has successfully reinvented the "Batman" franchise, says he's hoping to do the same with the "Conan" franchise.Waiting for a "Conan" script from an unnamed action writer-director (rumoured to be Robert Rodriguez), Robinov is committed to producing the film within the next year.
"I love the character," says Robinov, who is going back to two of the original stories. "It all depends on how the character is realized and the execution of the movie. You hope to satisfy the fan base and the broader audience. There has always been a fan base for the Conan character. So many years have gone by. You have to get to the core of who the Conan character was. It's like catching mercury."
It's easy to catch mercury if the rooms the right temperature...and that's another analogy. I think he's right though, they did capture a whole fan base so easily with that character, and it's still out there. The problem though, and it's something that I feel strongly about and I think they've failed to mention, is replacing Arnie. Unless they get the guy who's playing Arnie, Roland Kickinger - what a great name for an action actor! Thoughts from any Conan\Arnie fans?...and non-fans too.

At the risk of sounding cheesy, how about The Rock? Sure, he's getting typecast, but isn't that what ended up with Arnie too? Let's not kid ourselves. Whomever plays Conan isn't going to be one known for his thespian skills.

the rock that is the dumbest thing i ever heard. i cant recall one movie that he was in that was memorable. or good at that

I was thinking Triple H. It's not you need to be a decent actor to play Conan.

This could be good, but they have to fill the void of not having ARNOLD in the movie. Who would be a great Conan, hmmmmm, hands down and shirts off, lets go with Derek's idea that it has to be The Rock. It makes the most sense and, well, just fits. Almost like a condom, it just fits and feels right, hmmmmmmmm....yeah...thats some sexy stuff. Kickinger, hm, Darko is right that he would be good if coached. Triple H? maybe....
Oh, and liquid, make like Hydroman and mate with The Sandman, we can handle mud being spewed more than shit, thanks.

I had read and I also believe it is in the directors and Arnold commentary on the special edition dvd of Conan The Barbarian that Arnold was going to do King Conan. Enogh time has passed for him to age to be King Conan and we all know he can get back into great enough shape to be the ageing Cimmerian. Has this been scrapped?

Roland Kickinger is the man! He has the muscle and the looks - he even has the same history as Arnold - being a bodybuilder from Austria.
I agree he's probably not the best actor but I think TripleH or The Rock are probably even worse.
Conan should be very blunt and rough around the edges anyway and the accent 'Arnold talk' would come naturally for Kickinger anyway, I think.

If you're looking for an Arnold replacement, of course Kickinger is a great choice. For an actor to portray Conan, you have many choices.

This Roland Kickinger looks awesome. I have seen some pics and not only does he have the mussles, but he has a very charismatic look. He didn't do a lot of acting, so I hope they get a very good director on board to coach the guy, for an entire year if they have to.
