Breakfast Club, Usual Suspects and Gladiator sequels

BreakfastClub.jpgI know I'll probably get bashed from John for writing all these together, but really there's not enough news for single stories and I can sense frustration - it's really not that hard to see it - out there for the sequel stories. So let's just chuck these together and get them over with.

Yes, the gossip out there (and some of it really is just gossip) is that these are all up for sequelisation.

Usual Suspects:

Sydney Confidential is reporting that Kevin Spacey will be growing his hair back after working with Bryan Singer as Lex Luthor for "Superman Returns," currently shooting in Australia right now.

Comment:
What? that's it? He's growing his hair back and now sites across the Internet are grabbing on the story that he might be doing a sequel? Excuse me everyone, he is big in British Theatre right now and is set to return to the stage. Would that not mean growing his hair back?

Gladiator:

A sequel to Oscar-winning film Gladiator is in the works, according to Djimon Hounsou...
...Hounsou, who played Juba in the original film, said: "They're not happy about what they have for now, so they're still working on it."
He added: "I would probably be in the centre of it as one of the leads."

Comment: Okay, here we have an actor who was not a lead in the first movie saying that he would "probably" be in the second movie and as a lead. It's also reported elsewhere that he would like there to be a sequel. The fact that "they" are unhappy with what they have could mean a couple of screenwriters don't like their own draft...whoever they might be. I'm not going to leap all over this one until we hear some more concrete news from a concrete source. Anyway, everyone's dead from the first movie, including the King who resurrected Gladiators to keep his people happy during war. Isn't that all over and done with now?

Breakfast Club:

EMILIO ESTEVEZ has signed on to appear in a sequel to cult Brat Pack movie THE BREAKFAST CLUB, despite missing out on joining his castmates for a MTV Movie Awards reunion last month (JUN05)...
...But Estevez...urges fans of the film not to take his no-show as a sign he's not interested in a planned sequel.
He adds, "John's got an idea for a sequel - mature aged students at college, all doing time again - for some reason or another.
"The twist would be that we're all the polar opposites of how we were in the original. JUDD (NELSON), for instance, would now be the straight-laced one. I'm definitely in. If it happens, I'm there."

Comment: Now I suspect there will be some interest from you guys in this one. The original was great and there's been a lot of talk since the MTV appearance of some of the cast. If Estevez' comments are correct then it looks like there might just be a sequel on the cards. Although I'm not sure about the recreating of the whole event in the future, I do like the idea of twisting round the parts. We'll have to wait and see.

What do you think of all these sequels? Any take your fancy, or any just drive you mad?

I'm a big fan of the Breakfast Club, but the sequel concept doesn't sound too good, IMHO. If the main characters are all in college, does that mean that none of them went on to college after high school graduation and they're all enrolled in adult ed programs? I really don't buy this for the Anthony Michael Hall character, "the brain" of the bunch.

mature students? maybe sitting around in an old folks home talking about the glory days. the original was a good movie, -should be left alone.
(although seeing molly's character turned into a fat bald biker chick with face tattoos, hairy armpits and no teeth might be mildly jolting.)what would the opposite side of estevez's character be? he was kind of so bland it would be tough for him to have an opposite side. he probably became the president of one of the american television networks.

Urg!!!!! Hollywood! Would you stop making sequels already!? Here's a novel idea: how about hiring aspiring and very talented writers and directors to bring us something NEW for a change?

I like someone else's idea I read on here. They go back for a reunion, or a funereal, perahps of the teacher form the original, and end up locked in the school. I think the reunion Idea is best. They leave the gym, wander around seperately, and one by one find their way to the library. They get to talking, and when they go to leave, the reunion is over, the doors are locked. They're stuck in the school overnight.

Russell Crowe needs to get back into the good graces of the American public and "Gladiator" sealed his A-List position. I'm sure they'll find a way to "resurrect" his charactor in some way if he really wants to do the film.

i think maybe hollywood is running out of ideas for movies.....many movies in production this year are remakes of classics, or just a succesful cartoon or comic made into a movie, and well the sequels are pretty dam ridiculous, some movies like Gladiator are just a classic, let it go....dont ruin it with a lame plot sequel!!!

as long as their idiots throwing their money at these crappy sequels they will make them...just send me your money instead and i'll entertain you with my comments..lol...isn't kevin spacey the same guy who was in a park at 4 am "walking his dog" and got punched in the face and his cell phone stolen by a young male?? How important could that phone call have been for that young male in a prk at 4 am that kevin spacey would give it to him..literally..hmmm..can anyone say "george michaels"

Sequels are getting out of hand. The only sequel i really condone (and its not really a sequel) is the making of a Three Stooges movie by the Farrelly Brothers.

I don't think they should take the biopic road. They should instead make four shorts (and NOT remakes of shorts) in silky black and white.

And they need to get Russell Crowe as Moe, Robert Davi (the bad FBI guy in "Die Hard") as Shemp, Jon Lovitz are Larry, and Jack Black or Michael Chiklis as Curly.

I'm available as a creative consultant!

OMG I love the idea of the whole reunion thing and them getting locked in the school!!!!!!!!!!!! But i hate the idea of matured colledge students and them being totall opposites it sounds really borring. You'd think John Hughes would have way better ideas than that.I mean i love the first one its my favorite movie of all time, But matured colledge students and pretty much the exact same thing as the first accept they are older and even if they are playing totall opposites what difference would it make? If you want my oppinion DON'T WASTE GOOD MONEY ON SOME CHEAP SEQUEL THATS ALMOST EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE FIRST!!!!!!!!!!I'd rather there be no sequel than have that idea. But right now i can't get over the whole reunion idea. I love it!!!! Its such a good idea!!!!!
