9/11 Documentary

911CommissionReport.jpgAmerica's National Geographic channel is set to be the next company to produce a 9/11 movie. However this one is to be a documentary of United Airlines flight 93 which crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. From the BBC:

The Flight That Fought Back examines the fourth hijacked plane, believed to have been aimed at the White House.

As passengers tried to overcome hijackers the Boeing 757 crashed into a field, killing all 41 people on board.

Using actors to recreate scenes from the hijack, the two-hour show will be broadcast in the US on 11 September.

Executive producer Phil Craig said his team pieced the story together through interviews with family members who spoke to the passengers in the hour before the crash.

Eyewitnesses who saw United Airlines flight 93 crash into the field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, were also used, along with other documentary evidence.

...and that's not the only 9/11 piece of TV to be set for production, National Geographic are also set to produce a four hour documentary on the cause of the attacks and ABC is looking at a mini-series for 2006.

I've already seen a documentary that focussed on one of the planes that struck the towers, and what surprised me was how well it presented the passengers, and particularly the flight crew. There was a lot of respect shown for both victims and their families, and despite summasing some of the events in the cockpit, it was still very respectfully shown and not overly dramatised.

One thing to be glad of, if you think that 9/11 should be left off the screen for now, is that these will be documentaries and should hopefully favour truth and compassion. That may not be the same for the movies in the pipeline.
