Pink Panther delayed...again

I just wish forever. I still don't understand what Steve Martin was thinking when he took this on. Remaking such an incredibly perfect character and film brought to us by one of the funniest men ever Peter Sellers.

Maybe though, just maybe, it might be a hugely fitting homage and Martin might do Sellers proud. However from everything I've heard so far about changes, I really doubt it. I think it's going to be a kick in the headstone for the originals. So I'm happy it's delayed again, with the news from Coming Soon.

The Shawn Levy-directed comedy remake, starring Steve Martin, Kevin Kline, Beyoncé Knowles and Jean Reno, will now open on February 10, 2006...

...Distribution president Rory Bruer tells Variety that the move will give the studio, which inherited the project from MGM, a chance to develop its marketing effort.

"We've seen the film and we're really excited," he said. "We have an opportunity to really have a good, fresh start of the 'Pink Panther' franchise. We want the time to put together a proper campaign for it."

BONG! BONG!...What's that you ask? It's the death knoll.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it! I love Steve Martin, but if anything, at it's best it is just a good imitation.

I think it's because it's a broken movie, MGM saw it and said "We can't distributed this!", though them releasing The Amityville Horror on time botches that theory.

What campaign? It's the Pink Panther for crying out loud, it sells itself!

What did Bob and Harvey Weinstein say...."as long as you DONT release it....its still a asset.

It doesn't matter whether it's released now or next year, I have no intention of going to see it. The trailer makes the movie look awful. I love Steve Martin, but I think this was a bad call.

I have been scared about this movie since I first heard about it. To be honest, I would hate for Steve Martin to ruin all the good work he has done bringing his career back into the spot light within the past years. But I will try my best to be optamistic about the project. Perhaps this is not an attempted to fix things because the movie sucks, and they really do feel this movie will give re-birth of the Panther franchise. Oh please I hope this doesn't suck!!!!!

When was the last time you really laughed out loud at a Steve Martin movie?

Mine was Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and that was 17 years ago. The Out-of-Towners was okay but nowhere near a comedy that you could watch over and over.

And Cheaper by the Dozen 2 doesn't look to improve Matin's carrer.

I knew nothing about this movie until I saw a poster for it at the cinema last weekend. I must admit that my initial reaction was "Oh dear God, no!", mainly because I have very fond memories of the original movies and think that's it's going to be almost impossible for this not to be a total clunker.
For me, only Peter Sellers can be Clouseau and anyone else will be a pale imitation. Although I like Steve Martin's earlier work a lot, for me he's really gone off the boil.
I hope and pray that my gut feeling is way off the mark.

The trailers looked completely unfunny and this is another bad, bad sign.

It is rarely a good sign when a movie's release date is postponed. Phone Booth was an okay flick and it was held back due to sniper concerns.

But I'm betting they screened Pink Panther to a few test audiences and it royally bombed. You'll see it in video stores in the fall with the old direct to DVD maneuver!

this movie has been held back due to several pastel panther sightings in the bronx. people were afraid to come out of their tenements. even JLO wasn't on the block. just last week i saw a pink panther in target's pajama section.

i think the executives were a bit spooked, but my opinion is that there will be even more panther sightings leading up to the release. I hear jeff corwin of animal planet will be at the premiere with a tranquilizer dart gun.
