Open Season Trailer

The new trailer for Open Season has hit the web. The trailer looks pretty cute actually... sadly you can already tell the film is going to suck... probably as badly as Madagascar did. The voice stars for the film are Ashton Kutcher Martin Lawrence, which is all I need to know.

You see, when an animated film just grabs some huge names (like Madagascar did) instead of the right voices for the roles (like The Incredibles did) then it already sorta tells you that the film is being directed by the marketing department. It'll be cheap laughs with a thin story and no charm.

Also, as good as the trailer is, it (again like Madagascar) focuses on the side characters which is also not a good sign. Madagascar's marketing focused on the Penguins, who are really funny but barely in the actual movie at all.

And any animated film with Martin Lawrence in it that has the tagline "Boyz in the Wood" is destined for suckage.

Am I being to harsh on a movie that I haven't even seen yet? Yeah, I probably am. Is that very professional of me? Nope, probably not. But I'll betcha that next year I'll be writing a "I told ya so" post about Open Season. But then again... I have been know to be wrong.... from time to time. You can see the trailer here.

Why are the squirrels Scottish?

It's because the squirrels are part of Scotchtoberfest.

The opening of this trailer actually started out pretty good, but as it kicked in I just kind of smirked and by the end of it I was rolling my eyes. It's sad because I love animated films, but it's truly lacking lately. (Pixar the exception, of course)

I'm definitely skipping Madagascar, it'll be better enjoyed in the comfort of my own home.

I think I might check out Howl's Moving Castle. The trailer caught my interest and I loved Spirited Away.

Let's remember that Sony Animation is putting this out. The last thing that was animated out of the studio was the Chubb Chubbs and I recall it did particularly well. If they can make a movie as good as their animated short, I'd go see it.
