War of the Worlds more terror than effects

WOTWStill.jpgWith the huge movies that are coming out just now and in the coming months I think I'd kind of put War of the Worlds to the side, and with the trailer and the chosen lead, I've not been so hyped about it.

Still, I'm interested, and with comments like these I think it might be a lot better than expected. From Empire through Coming Soon, the Producer Kathleen Kennedy said...

"...This is a deeply scary movie."

The magazine says Spielberg and screenwriter David Koepp have put the emphasis on terror..."This is very much from the point of view of this family," adds Kennedy. "At the same time, there is this gigantic backdrop of what is going on and what they're running from."

Tim Robbins stars as astronomer Ogilvy, a holdover from Wells's novel. "He has one of the most tense sequences in the movie, where he poses a real threat to Tom's character," says Kennedy. "He is only in it for 20 to 25 minutes but he is absolutely riveting."

Interesting comments, and backed up with the stat that Sith boasts around 2200 special effects and Worlds only about 500, it adds some credence to the possibility that the movie is more focused in on the family and their terror, more Signs than Independance Day. Phew!

Really wish Spielberg would have stayed true to the time frame of the book. Still plan on seeing it though, I'm sure it won't disappoint.

Hm, I recently went to California haha...and I actually saw one of the sets from the movie, an actual seven fourty seven, ripped apart two by fours through nicely built houses, the plane on it's side, any way..from the set it looks like the destruction scenes are going to be AMAZING, If any of you guys are in the california area, go to LA, and take the universal studies back lot tour, they'll take you through the set...it's really interesting... ok well...I'll talk to you guys later.

Hey Marla, I am with you. I absolutely adore Tom. I really think he has been snubbed by the industry in the last couple of years. I am looking forward to all of his films and hope that one day he will get the recognition he so rightly deserves.

How can he be snubbed? He's one of the biggest paid stars in the business and appears in some of the biggest movies!

Come on, a lot of his performances are either the same good character or Cruise with his big grin. There's not a lot of variance or depth in his performances.

However, he has been excellent in Collateral, Last Samurai and Magnolia because he played characters that are totally different to his standard range.

"Snubbed" meaning awards-wise Richard. Obviously not a fan of Mr. Cruise are we Rich?

And you yourself have said it and I quote, "However, he has been excellent in Collateral, Last Samurai and Magnolia because he played characters that are totally different to his standard range".
