Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy on BBC TV
It's not strictly movie news, but I knew I couldn't let this slip by without warning as many people as possible. For those of you with access to the television channel BBC2, you'll be most happy to know that the TV series of Hitchhikers begins a rerun tonight starting at 23:20 for some six thirty-five minute episodes
On it you will see Simon Jones as Arthur Dent, who appeared briefly in the movie as the recorded message warning of impending nuclear attack, also seen is the eighties incarnation of Marvin, who also appeared in the movie. It's a throwback, but for you purists and fans out there, it may be a welcome alternative. Tell me this isn't a better Zaphod than the movie!

Thanks Pudie, I would say that it's available through all good DVD rental and purchase companies.
I myself use Tesco and they also have it.

There's also a new radio series that premiered today, the quandary and quintessential phases, adapting "So Long and Thanks for all Fish" and "Mostly Harmless". It's gonna be running for eight weeks every tuesday at 6:30pm England time.
I listened to the first one today and it was friggin awesome.

BBC Kids (played on most Canadian Cable provider's specialty channel packages) has been playing these episodes every night (around 11-midnight in my time zone) followed by episodes of classic Dr Who.
Retro cool.

The reason: The TV version is funny!

Oh, c'mon --- the movie was spot on perfect for what a movie rendition should be, just as the TV was spot on for what a TV series would be. I thought the movie presentation of Zaphod's two heads was a neat twist, better explaining why the second head never seemed to do much. I loved nearly everything about the movie (the Heart of Gold design, the way the improbability engine "worked").
I kind of missed the bulkier "thumb". And the neon-guide-graphics of the TV show, vs. the "Flash" look in the movie. Ah, when computer graphics cost a bundle to do...
The oddest thing was experiencing four versions of a line while watching certain scenes (the book, the TV show, the Infocom game, and the movie as it was unfolding). Heh.
The set up with Hummus [sic] is the weakest part of the movie, but otherwise it was great fun!
