Crispin Glover as the Joker?

CrispinGlover-Joker.jpgThis is an interesting casting rumour for Batman Begins, Crispin Glover to play the Joker in the sequels to the movie. This one's from Comic Book Movie:

A source at Batman on Film says the talk might be coming from Glover's own publicist or from Warner Bros. as a trila balloon.

The site notes that some "mock-ups" of Lachy Hulme (Sparks from The Matrix Trilogy) as The Joker have already been done.

Interesting, if you think about it he does have a good look for the Batman from the comics, thin, unusual face, I think it's not that bad a rumour. Thoughts on this one?

Now that I think about it and see the pics side by side, it looks and sounds like a great idea. I loved him in back to the futur "hey you! get your damn hands off of her"

Glover is too perfect for the role that I'm afraid he might not get it. Glover himself is a whacked out, slightly unhinged personality in real life, has the face, and is about the right age for the role when cast against the age that Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne/Batman is.

Lachy Hulme -- was he the guy who was possessed by Agent Smith? If so, he did a damn good impersonation of Smith, and was one of the few things about the Matrix sequels that was cool. He could be good too, but he seems too physically tough/big for the role of Joker.

Whether a true rumor or it's his publicist's way of putting his name out there for consideration I hope it works.

I think Cripsin Glover could totally pull off the role of the Joker! I would love to see him fill the role.

hulme would be better as bane.

this has to be glover's role, but you know a wb exec is going to try to fuck it up by insisting that someone like justin timbergay is cast instead.

I like Crispin Glover - He makes his acting worth watching.

BTW : Lachy Hulme is actually the third guy (Spark) with Niobe and Ghost on their ship. We see more of him in "Enter the Matrix" game.

I didn't read the post and I don't need to read the post. Crispin Glover as the joker is the best casting news I've ever heard since... ever. I can't think of better choice. One of my friends once said Willem DaFoe but this is way better. DaFoe has a great screen presence and is just plain right for the role.

I've never been big on Batman but from what I've seen of Batman Begins I'm starting to think Batman can re-establish itself as a key franchise.

And if this is true, it will be even better.
To put it slightly gratuitously, Crispin Glover is the shiznit.

although jack nicholson was excellent cast as joker, crispin glover is the next best thing, he's a crazy mofo

Posted by: Marla Singer at May 19, 2005 01:36 AM

with master-piece performances like his role in the rivers edge, how could he not get it?

Posted by: bigwig at May 19, 2005 02:08 AM

he seems pretty good, but what does anyone think of Tim Roth as the joker....someone said hed be to serious and scary...but i dunno he has a pretty good look for it...

Slightly off topic but I would like to say RIP to the actor Frank Gorshin who played the Riddler in the original Batman show. The Riddler was always my favourite villian as a child with his question marked suit and high pitched laugh.

I'm probably one of the few people to think so, but I was never fond of Nicholson as the Joker. But I am practically ecstatic about Glover---that would be THE choice, since alot of the freak that comes naturally to Glover is the same quality of freak that pretty much defines the best portrayals of the Joker.

Glover would indeed kick major ass if cast as the Joker. Nicholson was good, but too old. Dafoe is also too old for the role, plus he's already tainted from the Green Goblin part. Hulme would be good, but nowhere nearly as close to the Joker as Glover would be. They'll probably go with Hulme, as he has much more momentum going for the role than does Glover.

Glover would be my pick.

Crispin Glover: I like the character of this guy. He really looks like a wacko. (Although, I only seen him twice in two movies). BTW, he was one of the cast in 2 Charlies's Angels movie. The Agent Smith character in the Matrix also cast in the Lord Of The Rings Trilogy.

I think Crispin Glover would be cool... I thought he played a good psycho in charlies angels and he isnt really a huge name, and they seem to like the little known actors for the villians.

Tim roth might be a good choice, but I think william dafoe is freaky enough to do a good joker too

A bit off topic, but Im wondering how many people are going to put up a stink saying "didnt they already kill the joker already?"

WARNING. This post may contain spoilers.

When I first heard the Joker wasn't in Batman Begins I was confused over who the villian would be. After watching the trailer many, many times I noticed a dude with a bag or something on his head. If you already know who it is you're smart after my horrible description. I believe the villian is scarecrow. I could be wrong though...

Hmm... I know that was a little of topic, but it was the best place I could find to put it. I was expecting at least a little feadback. I spend alot of work on my post above. Not on writing it, the detatil

Sorry no one else has responded to you Bob, I can't post any new stories today so I'm going through comments.

Yeah, it is the Scarecrow...you'll be unhappy to know that it has been publicised for a while now. Good spot though.

a while back i heard a rumour that steve buscemi was in talks about being the joker....i think he would be an excellent choice along with crispin glover for the role.

Posted by: Bman at June 17, 2005 03:21 PM

The idea of either man as the Joker strikes me as absurd. There is only one real choice for the role: Mark Hamill.

Crispin would be a great pick for the Joker. After seeing Batman Begins, I would fully support the remake of not only the original Batman, but all FOUR. Of all the superheroes, Batman has one of the longest franchises, and just as diverse a cast. No disrespect to Keaton or Nicholson, both were great for their parts, but times change, and now with someone as great as Bale playing the character, why not push the blood back in the franchise? Unfortunatly, the only problem I have with that idea, is by the time they would remake Batman Forever, I'd be kind of upset. Tommy Lee Jones was a great Two-Face, and there is no one better for the Riddler than Jim Carrey...Plus I think that Crispin and Cillian (Joker and Scarecrow) would make an excellent team of villains for the rebirth of this great franchise.

Their not re-making the whole series you prick! that would be the dumbest thing ever...can you imagine watching batman, batman returns, batman forever and the shittiest film of all time batman and robin all over again with different actors? Plus Nolan & Bale have made it quite clear that Begins and others to follow it are not connected to the previous films in any way and thats a good thing too, the franchise died when Tim Burton and Keaton left. Begins is awsome, definatly the best batman film to date, with burton's movies rite behind it.
I agree with Crispin Glover as The Joker, he's got the perfect face for the part and is a bit of a weirdo anyway, but the resemblance is definatly there. I cant wait for the sequels, but saying that..it'll be a long wait until they even begin filming, its still early days.

"Havent you ever heard of the healing power of laughter?" - Jack Nicholson/ the Joker, (Batman 1989)

Even though Crispins villan role in Charlies Angels was small, I still think hes the coolest most psycho villan ever,,, hes the only logical choise for the Joker. P.S I have been collecting Batman comics for over fifteen years and I was very satisfied with Batman Begins, the gravelly Batman voice that Bale did was so rad

Posted by: Jeremy at June 23, 2005 04:59 AM

I completely agree with Jack Napier and just about everyone else here, that Crispin Glover would be the best pick for the Joker. He is insane, dark, witty, and mysterious, all traits the joker should have. And to anyone who saw Batman Begins: Didn't you think that Cillian did a great acting job as the Scarecrow!? Personally I hope that they make another batman movie with the Riddler in it. I think that if they could do him right(Nothing like jim carrey who ruined the role) that he would be one of the best villians there is in the series!

Posted by: Clown at July 15, 2005 08:24 PM

no, no, no...Glover should have been cast as the Scarecrow. That was his role. The Joker should be played by Andy Dick. Besides, if Glover would get cast, he's infamous for not doing sequels, so the producers would have to kill Joker off again. GO WITH DICK !!!
And may I add the gorgeous and talented Jessica Simpson, who was terrific as Daisy Duke, should play Harley Quinn. I'd love to see Halle Berry reprise her Patience Phillips/Catwoman role for Bruce's love interest. Ashton Kutcher would be perfect for a smug, vain, pretty boy Harvey Dent.

jeff... you are retarded

Posted by: dan at August 29, 2005 01:43 AM

Jeff, those are the WORST possible picks for villians I have EVER HEARD! You are a fucking dumbshit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
