Baz Luhrmann's new epic

BazLuhrmann.jpgNow this is interesting, news is that Baz Luhrmann's so far untitled project is starting to take shape. According to Variety through Coming Soon it's going to be some form of epic Australian version of Gone with the wind (Not Star Wars, like John's watching right now). Not only that he's courting some big names for the movie:

Russell Crowe and Nicole Kidman, who earlier this year tried to get the all-Australian film Eucalyptus off the ground, are poised to try again with a period epic that Baz Luhrmann will direct later this year.

Luhrmann is collaborating with Collateral screenwriter and fellow Aussie Stuart Beattie on a romance being called an Oz Gone With the Wind and expected to be made through Fox.

Sounds very interesting, and Luhrmann hasn't put a foot wrong yet, his stunning visuals and sense of theatrical cinema are just a marvel to watch and listen to. Here's hoping he brings us more wonderful cinematics.

Rich, you were talking about screen icons on a separate post, I think Crowe and Kidman should easily be a shoo-in.

Mmm...I might argue that with you, but not here because it will give away a big post I am working on. There's a reason I wouldn't class them as icons, and it's the crux of the post.

Modern day terms perhaps. I'll leave the debate for the big one!

Sure, sure we will argue Rich. :-)

The thing is, I will prefer Crowe over Pitt anytime. I have no probs with Jolie, she has proved her acting mettle but Pitt? Unless of course when you talk about screen icons, its just the presence of the actors and nothing to do at all with talent because Crowe can take Pitt anytime.

No, I am talking about doing a big post comparing icons from the black and white days to the ones of today.

I shall hold thy breath for that then. :-)
