The Da Vinci Code new castings

IanMckellen.jpgI'm getting happier with the casting of The Da Vinci Code now, forget the leads for the moment that carry all that controversy, on here at least, and concentrate on the new announcements yesterday and today. Variety through Coming Soon have an update:

Alfred Molina will play zealous Bishop Arigarosa, who's keenly interested in the sleuthing activities of Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) and cryptographer Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou). Sir Ian McKellen will play Sir Teabing, a wealthy man who acts as a resource for Langdon even as he shows his own ambitions to uncover the Holy Grail.

McKellen is perfect for the role, and I can just picture him in it just now, and as for Molina, well he just looks the part and they both just ooze style and character acting. What does everyone else think?

That is AWESOME news. McKellen is perfect for that role. My anticipation for this just increased ten fold.

WTHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

That's all I can really say about that news regarding Sir McKellen's casting. My, I hope they do it right with this movie, what a good cast we will have here, and I forgot, Molina's casting is just as good. I can see it already, Hanks and McKellen in that pivotal part of the story, what a combination!!!

They need to make the casting right for Silas.

wow..i was pleasantly surprised at the decision that Sir Ian was cast as Teabing! but somehow when i read the book (a couple of times, i might add) i kinda imagined Sir Michael Caine.but oh well..the casting people shud know more about who makes the characters work, which i hope will happen..n i know this is kind of late, but dontcha think that the guy who played Clark Kent's dad in Smallville would be PERFECT as Langdon? he has the features...but again, what do i know...

Oh you mean the guy from the Dukes of Hazzard? Oh...that's funny that you refer to him as the father in Smallville and I would always say Dukes. Oh I'm getting old.

I'm not sure. I always thought of someone who wasn't a typical good looking, well build guy. You really need an academic type. Someone who would manage, but struggle doing the things in the movie. I guess for that Hanks is close, but facially he just isn't as I thought.

I think we might all have to deal with the fact that the rest of the casting is so strong, maybe they have hit it right with Hanks. Maybe this time you'll forget about Hanks the actor and concentrate on the role. Be fair, he's pulled this off a few times of late.

I really can't imagine the Da Vinci Code as a movie. I thought the book was a let down as it did not mention Da Vinci much and it was no where near as good as Angels and Demons. But I think Tom Hanks will make a good Robert Langdon and I will see the movie because I want to compare it with the book.
