Alfonso Cuarón to direct Life of Pi
Looks like M. Night Shyamalan has definitely lost his chance to make the adaptation of Life of Pi, according to The Guardian talks are in progress with another Director.
Alfonso Cuarón, the director of Harry Potter: the Prisoner of Azkaban, and the acclaimed road movie Y tu mamá también, is set to direct the film adaptation of Life of Pi, Yann Martel's Booker-prize-winning novel......If negotiations are successful, Cuarón would be replacing M Night Shyamalan, the Sixth Sense director, whose name has been linked to the project for the last couple of years.
Once again I seem to go against popular belief and say that I thought the third Harry Potter movie was the better one out of the three, but then I'm not a Harry Potter fan so what would I know.
It's a shame to judge a Director on such a closed franchise as Harry Potter, so it might be good to let him loose on something a bit more open. Still you can't help but think that the unusual story is perfect for Shinealight.

This is a great book and I actually feel better about Mr. Cuaron directing than M.Night. And I agree with you, the third Harry Potter film was the better movie. Didn't feel so Home Alone-ish.

I heard about this news last week, it came out the same time that Shyamalan decided to do that other movie instead, "Lady in the Water".
Now "Life of Pi" is one of my best reads last year and I recommend it to those who havent had the chance to read it yet. I was hoping whilst reading it that Shyamalan helm it should they decide to make a film adaptation, what a shame that he couldnt now. As for Cuaron's work, I have to agree, the 3rd Potter installment was way better than the first two, and I am not even a fan of the franchise nor have read the books, but the 3rd film appealed more to me.

I'd rather Shyamamlan was doing it buy I really thought the 3rd Potter was the best by far. Not that I disliked the first 2, the 3rd was just so much darker and held my interst better. One thing is for sure, he has some solid material to work with in Pi. I've said it before but I really belive that if he does this right and is true to the book, this movie could be a classic.

Shyamalan likes to work on his own scripts, so it works for him too.
I have seen Y tu mamá también. It is good one and I think the director may do the 'Pi' very well.

Hey Richard - I'm a fan of the Harry Potter movies/books and I have to agree with you the 3rd one was by far the best. Even my 8yr old daughter will tell you that! I don't understand these people who have such a loathing for this guy's direction. I feel the man had a good vision of how HP story is growing darker and he painted the last movie in that direction.
I think the guy has talent. Perhaps it's because he thinks outside the norm and takes chances that people feel he's not good. If so, then it's their close minded attitudes that is keeping them from experiencing something beyond the norm.
Hm, I'm a little grumpy today - can you tell? ;)
