V for Vendetta site goes live with video press conference

V4VendettaMask.jpgThe V for Vendetta site is live and online. There's not too much there so far, but what they do have is real interesting.

For a start there's the images. The V sign and the mask are on the site and looking just as a reader of the graphic novel would expect, but I think the exciting part are the videos of the press conference.

Hear how Natalie Portman is going to shave her head for the role, oooh. James Purefoy will not take the mask off in the movie, and even sleeps with the mask on! James McTeigue reassuring us about the style of the location shooting. Joel Silver saying the movie will be shot in Germany and UK with some effects, but it's not effects driven.

If you're a fan of the novel, check out those banners to ease your mind. So far I'm happy with the direction so far, it seems like they're going to be very true to the novel.

The other news, carried last week in some of the other sites, is that the cast has increased by one. From the official site press release:

BERLIN, GERMANY, March 4, 2005 – The Wachowski Brothers and Joel Silver, the creators and producer of the revolutionary, $1.6 billion-grossing Matrix trilogy, have launched production on the action thriller V For Vendetta, starring Natalie Portman (Star Wars: Episodes I-III, Closer, Garden State), James Purefoy (Vanity Fair, Resident Evil) and Stephen Rea (Interview with the Vampire, The Crying Game) in Berlin, Germany.
