Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six is go on zulu.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six has made it from a successful novel, to a string of successful videogames across consoles, now to the movie screen.

The story seems set to follow roughly that of the original novel, and not that of the videogame franchise - thank the lord, no Boll or Anderson in sight - and will focus on the creation of the elite multinational team based in England (which means filming will be anywhere but there, thanks to the Chancellor). Coming soon bring the news from Variety:

Paramount has tapped Zack Snyder to write and direct its adaptation of Tom Clancy's "Rainbow Six," centered on Clancy's shadowy John Clark CIA agent character.

Zack Snyder brought us the remake Dawn of the Dead and is currently at work Directing that which he wrote the screenplay for, 300, adapted from Frank Millers' novel of, as per IMDB,...

...the fabled Battle of Thermopylae, where the King of Sparta led his army against the advancing Persians.

Certainly sounds like an interesting Director\Screenwriter for the job, and if they do stick around the novel we'll be in for an action packed movie tied firmly to reality. Let's hope so anyway.

Excellent. I've been waiting for this movie for a long time. of course, since the book was so unbelievabley long, I expect that much will be lost as far as plot is concerned.

I just have one question, who could play John Clark? I thought that Liev Schreiber was awesome as Clark in sum of all fears, but they need someone older for this one, since it takes place when he's effecttively out of the field, and just leading the squad. I hope they don't try to bring in Willem Dafoe for the role. I never thought he was very believable in Clear and Present Danger. Harrison Ford could do it pretty well, but I doubt they'd bring him on, considering that he played Jack Ryan twice.

John Clark is an extremely large shoe to fill & should not be written off as just another character. As I understand it John Woo is supposed to direct the movie.

I really hope they don't do Without Remorse without Clancy co writing the script...If its anything like Clear & Present Danger or Sum of all Fears I don't even want to hear about it...THEY KILLED DAN MURRAY.
And left out the greatest possible action scene HARRISON FORD WITH A VULCAN MINIGUN FROM A HUEY BLACKHAWK HELICOPTER!

Sorry I am a hardcore clancy reader & am seriously upset with his latest work. Thanks.

Has anybody here read Clancy's "The Teeth of the Tiger"?

That was one total waste of my time. I believe in character development but devoting 300 pages of it, oh please. I am not really excited to read or even watch any Clancy novel adapted to film now, sorry. Whatever happened to you man?

I wish I still had time to play video Games because these look cool but I just don't have the time. I still miss the days of the old Contra games on Nitendo......oh well....start showing my age again!

The early Clancy novels and the current spate of games are excellent and partner each other really well. The squad based games and the Splinter Cell series have both brought new and unique styles to gaming. They're are always in my games collection...not that I get much time to play these days.

I haven't read the Clancy latest, my Dad has been a big fan from the beginning and has read everything, perhaps I should get his comments in here.

Hey here's an interesting thing. Checking out the IMDB listing of Rainbow Six, who's name in on Directorial duties? John Woo!

Yo, on the sub-topic of games to movies.. anyone hear anything of the game franchise Hitman making its way to the movies?.. I've seen nothing new on this sence the last post on IGN.com long long ago :\

Raindbow Six will be good if they keep it looking real, and stay away for a Swat-ish style movie :)

Rich, please ask your Dad what he thought of "The Teeth of the Tiger".

I heard on another site that Zack Snyder was going to be directing this. I hope its not true, I want a follow-up to Dawn of the Dead now!

Errmmm Adam, says Zack Snyder above in the post. Actually I think the issue with IMDB is it might be a bit behind, I've seen that before, and I *may* have heard in the past that Woo was connected, does sound familiar.

Don't think it's a bad thing though, although it might loose part of it's edge and become all style over substance.

Simone - My Dad is emailed and I hope he drops in a post soon.

Richard-I was referring to the Woo question, just saying that I had heard Snyder from another source as well as here.
