Killraven comic character next for movies

KillRaven.jpgSony is talking with Marvel right now on the possibility of bringing the comic character Killraven to the big screen. According to Variety through Coming Soon:

Set in a future where mankind has been enslaved by an alien race, storyline follows a man who, though born in captivity, rises through gladiatorial battles to become the leader of a group of revolutionaries. Called the Freemen, his warrior-slaves unite in an attempt to drive the invaders off the Earth.

The trade adds that Sony already is in discussions with Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Robert Schenkkan ("The Kentucky Cycle") to adapt the 1970s comic book series.

Marvel would have quite a hand in the production, and that crazy guy Avi Arad would be producing...oh dear lord, he sounded like a car salesman at that Marvel meeting we reported on before. Still the story seems interesting, although it does make me think more of a Riddick plot than anything, or is it the next Neo, or... Anyway, it does sound...(insert usual pre-scripting caveat).

As an aside, here's the update on Arad's production schedule courtesy of IMDB:

Iron Fist (2006) (in production) (executive producer)
Sub-Mariner (2006) (announced) (executive producer)
The Hands of Shang-Chi (2005) (announced) (producer)
Werewolf by Night (2005) (announced) (producer)
The Black Widow (2006) (announced) (co-producer)
Deathlok (2006) (announced) (producer)
Iron Man (2006) (pre-production) (producer)
X-Men 3 (2006) (pre-production) (executive producer)

This Killraven guy looks EXACTLY the same as the Kollin character from the pages of Excalibur in the late 80s.

Not too much of a suprise since Alan Davis did art for both books, but still a bad "copy". Although I hear the Excalibur character was the copy as this is a fairly old character that was brought back in recent years.
