Napster To Offer Movie Downloads Legally
This is a step in the right direction. Silicon.Com is reporting the following:
Original music download heavyweight Napster is considering remaking itself as a movie download site too. Speaking at the Midem music conference, Napster CEO Chris Gorog said the company was considering offering movies alongside its current catalogue of some one million music tracks.I'd like to find out what kind of license this would need. Can you download it and KEEP it? Burn it to disc if you want? Or will it just be an online pay-per-view where a proprietary codec self terminates after 24 hours or something like that?"We are currently considering moving into video, particularly to tap the younger video-game generation," he told delegates, according to the Financial Times. "I do think that while there are huge players in the delivery of movies like Sky, there could be a role for Napster."
Online movie distribution has already taken off to a small degree in the US, with MovieLink and CinemaNow selling films via the web from $2.99 upwards.

I love Napster. When it first came out I was hooked to it and now that its all legit, I download most of my MP3's from Napster and find the £0.79 per track worth it. But I have yet to download a film from any source. I am not sure if I have enough specs on my PC to be able to do it.
I still think buying films on DVD's in retail stores like Virgin or HMV here is okay with their regular sales all year round. But then if this will be the thing of the future, I dont mind either.

I'm just wrapping up my free 30 day trial of Napster and I've been pretty impressed. However, their soundtrack selection is horrible. I'm a big movie score freak and they've only got about 20 soundtracks/scores available. For $9.95 per month, I'll probably pass for now, but who knows.
As for legit movie downloads, I'm just not interested. The time that it would take to download, (even with a broadband connection), and the hassle of burning, on top of whatever this will cost, can't compete with previously viewed DVDs at Blockbuster or Hollywood Video, or just going down to a big box store and paying $15 for a new DVD.

That is garbage, use Sharaza. It is free and offers double the media Napster does, including Videos, music, pictures, entire music albums, and cracked or all ready registered software. It is all legal. Get it from Shareaza.com. It contains no spyware or adware.

If it's going to be liscensed you can bet your sweet @$$ it'll be heavily DRM'ed. No keeping, no burning, thus no buying (for me at least).
