A Scanner Darkly Starring Keanu Reeves Looks Awesome!

I cannot believe I have never heard of this before, but after seeing this story at Ain't It Cool News, I am very, very stoked.

Based on the novel by Philip K. Dick, the IMDB sums up the plot as:

Set in a future world where America has lost the war on drugs, undercover cop Fred (Keanu Reeves) is one of many agents hooked on the popular drug Substance D, which causes its users to develop split personalities. Fred, for instance, is also Bob, a notorious drug dealer. Along with his superior officers, Fred sets up an elaborate scheme to catch Bob and tear down his operation.

Sounds great to me, but the real kick is what it looks like: WOW! They have taken live film, and graphic novel artists are animating over it and it just looks great, check out the pics at the bottom of the page!

Neat!

Vector Art is beautiful. But this might be pushing it a bit.

I hope they don't go all minimalist like the Reeves shot. Detailed Backgrounds will make me happy.

To add something new to comment on: What is it with Keanu Reaves helping to support these geeky cool movie ideas (Constantine and Scanner Darkly)? Why is it that Hollywood is interested in these projects only when he's (questionably cast) in them? I have this feeling that neither studio behind each film would have been interested in funding these productions unless Keanu came to the rescue.

i guess old reeves has drawing power, I mean, I think he is awesome.

do they give an oscar for being awesome?

It just seems like both films would have been served better with other actors in the leading role. As an actor, Keanu just kind of--well, frankly--sucks.

Reeves has the mutant ability of finding the only movie roles that he can actually fill. He's a stiff of an actor... but he always finds these roles that require stiffs... so he looks good in them (well... some of them anyway).

i guess he does have a screen persona, but it is a screen persona i like.

sort of like how when i was young, i read like 50 DragonLance books, not great books, but they had a fun formula.
