Ok, the only MAJOR complaint I have with this nominee list is the absense of Tom Cruise for Best Actor in a Drama for his role in Colateral. Easily it was the best performance of the year in the male category... and that's saying something because I don't even really like Cruise. Seriously... I'm shocked that he's not on that list.

Otherwise, it all looks pretty solid... although I would have had Shrek 2 on the Best Picture Musical or Comedy list... but that one isn't such a big deal.

What do you think? What's there that shouldn't be? What's missing that you think is a CRIME that it isn't there?

Really and truly, I shouldn't still be ranting about this film 3 days later, but I really think somebody should call the director of Blade Trinity out on this blatant piece of cinematic crap. So maybe there isn't a category for worst shit-stain of a film to splatter the screen in 2004, but if there was...that movie deserves it.

Am I the only one who's expecting Eternal Sunshine to sweep most of the categories here and at the Oscars? I figure they've got Screenplay in the bag (to be fair, I haven't seen any of the other films in that category). I think Carrey did an excellent job, but I'm not too sure if he'll get it, looking at his competion. I think Winslet has it though. As for the best picture one, Ray will be the only real competition. Incredibles was good, but I thought Eternal Sunshine was just a better film.

Looking down this list makes me realize how many movies I didn't see this year. I usually wait for DVD, since I can get them free from work, which screws me over when it comes to awards most of the time. I may get out to Finding Neverland sometime this week though. I love pretty much every movie Depp has done, so I have a good feeling about this one.

Don Cheadle should win, not so much because of the role (another movie I haven't seen, is it even out yet?), but because of how versatile an actor he is. He deserves an award, even if it's only a golden globe.

Is there anybody that can explain how movies that have not been released yet (Aviator, Spanglish, etc...) get nominated for awards? Shouldn't they be out there for public consumption before they can be nominated? I'm sure insiders can see these flicks, it just seems wrong to me.

I have not seen too many of the films nominated and havent even heard of Million Dollar Baby, Sideways or Kinsey. I am assuming these films havent been released in sunny old England yet?

Looks like Sideways has the "quirky little indie that gets lots of nominations but wins nothing" slot sewn up - at the expense of I ♥ Huckabees, Garden State or The Life Aquatic, no doubt. I wonder if the fact that Sideways has only just come out, while Eternal Sunshine's eight months old, might work give it an advantage?

Is it just me, or do both the Best Actress lists seem incredibly weak and predictable - a sort of "if in doubt, nominate Kidman, Zellweger and Johansson" thing. Imelda Stanton should probably win in the drama category, and Kate Winslet's the only one on her list to be nominated for a good performance in a good movie. I mean, really... Bridget Jones, Being Julia, Phantom of the Opera and De-bloody-Lovely? Huh?

How is Ray in the musical or comedy category? Is it actually a "musical"? I thought it was just a biopic about a musician. Either way I think that would give it an unfair advantage in that category.

I'd like to see either Eternal Sunshine or Sideways win lots of awards, both are great movies.

I have said before, I believe Hollywood is suffering from a severe lack of quality actresses at the moment. Apart from the usual suspects that seem to get all the major parts, and nominated for all the awards, there isn't anyone else really to chose from. Halle Berry gave a one off Oscar performance, which I doubt she could ever repeat (I personally didnt think she was that great a won a weak catogory!). Charlize Theron will not even get nominated again let alone win another Oscar! Where have all the women actresses gone!

When Tom metioned I Heart Huckabees, Garden State, and The Life Aquatic, I suddenly realized that they weren't listed on here.

Both I Heart Huckabees and Garden State should have been nominated for screenplay, although Eternal Sunshine should probably win.

And I think David O. Russell should've be nominated for best director. And although I still haven't seen Closer (soon, soon), I think Natalie Portman did an amazing job in Garden State.

Now The Life Aquatic, although I haven't seen it and don't want to get my hopes up too high, will be the best movie of the year. I have been waiting sooo long for this movie, and Wes Anderson hasn't let me down yet. Although the list varies a little every day, The Royal Tenenbaums is my all-time favorite movie, and Rushmore is number three. (I know everyone is curious: number two is The Big Lebowski.)

Thanks for posting the nominees, John. In the hustle-bustle of the holidays, I completely missed the announcement.

Just wanted to say to all the winner and the one's that didn't win, I just thought it was a beautiful show. I am especially proud of Jamie Fox. I really like how explan the relationship that he had with his grandmother and he thought she was mean when he was younger, but she was only show him how life goes. I am not just saying this because he said, but he made me remember the lady that adopted me, how I thought she was me too and I was adopted at 8mos. old. by my grandmother cousin. So I feel him and one I will be making a movie about my adopted pass. God bless tell Jamie I said stay focus like Grandma said.
