Mark Wahlberg Signs On For Four Brothers

MarkWahlberg.jpgI know a lot of people will disagree with me on this, but I've gotta tell ya... I don't think Mark Wahlberg is a half bad actor at times. Recently it was announced that he's doing The Italian Job 2 (which I'm personally pretty pleased to hear) and now he's hooking up with director John Singleton (Boyz N the Hood) to do an interesting sounding film called Four Brothers. The Hollywood Reporter gives us this:

The contemporary feature concerns four brothers who set out to avenge the death of their mother. Dave Elliot and Paul Lovett are writing the script.
Yeah, this looks like it has potential. Sign me up.

Mark and Donnie Wahlberg are both very good actors. Actually I think that Donnie is superior to Mark, although that could be down to the roles.

Boomtown was an excellent show which showcased his talents, and Band of Brothers turned out an equally impressive performance.

You may think, "Cool, Wahlberg is hooking up with the Director of Boyz in the Hood!"

I think, "Eww, Wahlberg is hooking up with the Director of 2 fast 2 furious!"

I like Mark Wahlberg, He's a much better Actor than he was Rapper. I just don't think John singleton is the right person to work with because he hasnt made a decent movie in 10 years.

Cool thing about Mark (and Donnie) is that there was a lot hype around him initially when he was a rapper and was making the switch to actor which is understandable 'cause that's how Hollywood is. But he very astutely turned the PR machine off aftera couple of movies and just decided to make a career as an ACTOR not a CELEBRITY (like Affleck and others) so that now you are willing to pay money to see him in a film because you're interested in the character he's chosen to represent and are not bombarded with background thoughts about who he's dating, what cologne company he represents, etc. He should have some real longevity.

I'll pay money to go see Mark in a movie no matter who the Director is. And something impressed him about working with Singleton enough for him to sign on. Maybe it's a good script. And with the success of 2F2F ($130m US, virtually the same Foreign)) maybe Singleton's finally been given a decent script to work with. That seems to be how Hollwood works, too.
