Star Wars Still Top Trilogy At The Box Office

I'm a sucker for quirky little facts and figures (probably because I'm a sports fan). So when I came across this little chart at Box Office Mojo I was instantly interested. Wheeeeeeee!!!! Star Wars is still #1 all time at the box office with Lord of the Rings right on it's tail. Some of the more surprising entries on this list are Back to the Future only being ranked #11 while the pathetic Home Alone is ranked 3 places higher at #8. Another one is Crocodile Dundee at #21 being ahead of Superman at #22. The Godfather only at #28!?!?! And for all you Star Trek Fans out there, The Karate Kid is ahead of you at #29. The Star Wars trilogy has had the advantage of how many rereleases now... Atleast Peter Jackson has only brought them out once now

Yes, but Jackson has had the benefit of being released when it costs $10-$14 to get a ticket instead of $4-$6 when the original Star Wars Trilogy was out.

Three Crocodlie Dundees beat three Die Hards? That's just wrong.

Even Die Hard 2 wasn't as bad as any Crocodile Dundee.

not that i'm a fan, but where is Titanic on that list?

yes but Star Wars did not have to counter the strong DVD-market and unauthorized Divx copies, like LOTR did. Not to mention that the ticket increase from $5 to $8-$10 (who pays $14 for a ticket???) is a very hazy argument. I think in this matter it would be interesting to see the numbers on the amount of people who went to see Stars Wars and LOTR. I think you would be amazed of the impact of the latter.

Lord of the Rings is gonna knock Star Wars out of the box and I CAN'T WAIT! I will go on until the end of the human species...and I still won't see a penny but THAT'S OK, TOO!

The point is what John has said, "Jackson has had the benefit of being released when it costs $10-$14 to get a ticket instead of $4-$6 when the original Star Wars Trilogy was out." Think about the inflation guys.

So yes, Star Wars indeed rules, and WILL ALWAYS rule.

The one FILM to rule them all.
