Spaceballs 2 - May the Schwartz Be With You!

Spaceballs.jpgHands down, the funniest line ever in a film is still "Now you will see that evil will always triumph... Because good... is dumb!" Oh yeah baby, Mel Brooks has been reported as saying that he's already writing Spaceballs 2. I'm so excited I think my feet are sweating. Cinema Blend gives us this:

I'm writing myself back into the Spaceballs sequel that I'm now writing, so you haven't seen the last of my face. Why another Spaceballs? It wouldn't feel right have anyone else play Yoghurt and the first one was the best experience I've had making a movie since Blazing Saddles.
Oh sweet heavens! I think I may go out for Halloween as Dark Helmet this year! On a sad note, John Candy's presence will be missed. No one else could play Barf quite like him. Maybe Will Ferrell could do it. The article goes on to suggest that Brooks may be aiming to have Spaceballs 2 in theaters just BEFORE Star Wars Episode III. Can you really film a movie and get it into theaters that fast without it being total crap? Here's hoping.

That IS exciting!!! Spaceballs was the only movie my little brother and I had completely memorized. We're act it out at the dinner table, which would drive our dad insane because he thought it was such a stupid movie. Hahah.

I love the idea of a sequel, but really, who would take over the John Candy required role? I can't think of a single comedic actor today who could even close to JC's calibre. Possibly Wil Farrell, but even that might not work on some levels for this kind of movie since Wil doesn't seem to be able to play deadpan like JC could or Lesie Neilson can. JMO.

I recall a rumour that went around some time ago. This was about 4-5 years after Spaceballs came out. The rumour basically outlined the concept for another Spaceballs movie.

It was to be called Spaceballs 3: The Search for the Lost Sequel. Brooks was rumoured to be taking shots at the attempts to drag money out of the movie going public by producing substandard sequels, etc.

Of course this may have just been a rumour. Since it never happened I have no idea if its just an idea he had, or if he ever did anything to get the ball rolling on it.

PS: The action figures Dark Helmet was playing with in Spaceballs can be found at Planet Hollywood in Niagara Falls Canada. If they were not safely secured behind glass, they would have been found in my den.

Posted by: Rodney at October 3, 2004 07:28 PM

All other things aside, I'll be *very* disappointed if the movie isn't subtitled "The Soich for More Money"!!! (I guess I'd settle for "The Search for More Money", but that's not what Yoghurt said...)

Posted by: Joseph at October 7, 2004 11:57 AM

hmm well ive heard their going to use the "spaceballs three: the search for space balls two" as the title but it could have just been a rumor, and jc role could never be filled with any other actor, so they might just write braf out of the script, or at least with candy gone thats what i'd do

Posted by: kirk at October 8, 2004 09:45 PM

Spaceballs is easily one of the poorest films brooks ever made..ok ill say it its downright bad.
It does not even come close to Blazing Saddles or Young Frankenstein...In fact i think it is embarassing for this to be called a Mel brooks movie

Posted by: Tom at November 7, 2004 10:08 AM

Spaceballs was a creative hillarious film. If you think it is downright bad, you probably have some type of object lodged in your A$$! Have some fun. Embarassing to be called a Mel brooks movie?? Is there such a thing? Id like to see your accolades Tom!

Posted by: JR at November 7, 2004 10:50 AM

Tom spaceballs is hilarious, and you're a faggot.

Posted by: Rich at November 7, 2004 10:53 AM

Id stick my spaceballs in your moms yoghurt

Posted by: Jerry Garcia at November 7, 2004 02:08 PM

i think that spaceballs two will be great if any one hates the first one they are a fool who have no sense of humour the best bit is wen dark helmet says "evil will triumph because good is dumb" the second one i heard was space balls 3: the search for spaceballs 2

Posted by: nathan at November 23, 2004 11:52 AM

I agree with most of you, Spaceballs is the funniest movie I have ever seen. In fact, I can't even watch Star Wars without laughing at it, how ridiculous.

Tom, you're a Jackass in every sense of the word.

Perhaps I could send you some Midol so your attitude towards life might improve. Hey, it has helped for all the other Bitches I have met in my life.

Posted by: Jeff at December 15, 2004 10:54 AM

Spaceballs is the best movie ever and I beleive that the sequel will be just as good as the first.

On anouther note, whoever thinks that Spaceballs is a bad movie must have a very large stick in his A$$!

Posted by: Joe at December 17, 2004 10:00 AM

Those Dolls are definatly at the Planet Hollywood in NF,ONT. Got me a picture with them...almost crapped when I saw them!

Posted by: Mike at December 25, 2004 12:43 AM

I think that Mel is going to have to comb the desert to find someone as talented as John Candy to play Barf, and i hope that he finds something more than S*!T. To the cool guy that thinks Spaceballs sucks, that would be you Tom, What is with you man?

Posted by: Jim at January 1, 2005 06:45 PM

I dont really think a sequel to one of the greatest movies ever is gonna be good idea.I mean cuz most of the time sequels downright blow, and i dont want that to ruin spaceballs for me.but thats just my opinion

Posted by: Bobby Matousek at January 6, 2005 11:54 PM

Spaceballs 2??? I swear to god, I shed a tear when I heard the good news. I was so danged happy. I love it. The man is a genius. Now he can add stuff from the new Star Wars movies as well. As many people have previously stated, John Candy will most certainly be missed. No one could EVER replace him. I think the best solution to this would be to not even try to. If he wants to include something like Barf, make it be his son, Puke or somethin'. But whatever happens, I will be at the midnight showing of this movie. May da shwartz be wit joo!!!

Posted by: DrCoolbeans at January 7, 2005 07:19 AM

Cool beans! I love Spaceballs and look forward to this new one. It is one of those movies that I never get sick of. Here's hopes that Dark Helmet has a lot of miss fourtune and says even more funny lines. "I am your father's, brother's, nephew's, cousion's former room mate." Cracks me up all the time.

Posted by: Joseph Rositano at January 11, 2005 10:32 PM

I just want to know where I can find Spaceballs 2 I have the 1st and I want to find the 2nd one thank you

Posted by: Ryan Wickman at January 14, 2005 01:24 AM

how about these potential barfs: Mike Meyers(he did an exellent fat bastard and Shreq 2 well played fat roles), Horatio Sans(just cause he's fat), John Goodman(thats what my roomate just said), any other ideas please post!!!

Posted by: jon galayda at January 16, 2005 10:02 PM

I think Spaceballs is one of the best movies ever made. It's hilarious. I quote it all the time, I even nicknamed my roommate's ex-fiancee Horse-faced Space Dog. I saw it before I saw any of the Star Wars movies...I prefer Spaceballs!!! I can't wait for the sequel.

Posted by: Cynthia at January 17, 2005 02:18 PM

There is another alternative- a CG Barf with a voice actor doing the voice. Ok. So he'd end up being called Barf Barf Jinks.....

Posted by: Brian at January 18, 2005 02:45 PM

SpaceBalls is the best movie ever made. It's the only movie I've seen over 100 times and still laugh just like it's the first. John Candy is unreplaceable, but I think barf barf jinks will be a needed comic relif to a sad ending.

Posted by: Megan at January 28, 2005 02:20 PM

Spaceballs is the best sci/fi/comedy ever made, I've been watching it over and over for the last 15 years. Seeing as their releasing a 2-disc special edition DVD set; hopefully this means a closer release for SPACEBALLS 2.

Posted by: pb05 at February 19, 2005 11:26 AM

OK, I agree SPACEBALLS is quite great, but I disagree with the young padawan who siad it is best than Star Wars.

It couldn't exist without Star Wars!!!!

Anyway, I find every single parody or fan film, or mention of Star Wars in any other communicative product to be rather and homage

Nevertheless I'm lookin forward to watch SPACEBALLS 2...

I'm a Mel Brooks' true fan, so, Rabi...GET ON IT!!!!!

yes this makes me soo happy, i love the original movie and i plan on buying the collectors dvd. the idea of a sequel makes me happy everywhere ;). but sadly i found out just last night that jon candy was dead. i thought he was still alive, but sadly he is no longer with us. he will be missed.

I thought I heard somewhere that it's going to be called "Spaceballs 2: Clown Wars" I, for one, would love to see this flick.

Posted by: Major Asshole at April 4, 2005 11:54 PM

i was really hoping this would be released before star wars. i had heard it would be called, spaceballs: the prequel. i guess we'll have to wait and see.

Posted by: LEWIS at April 27, 2005 05:08 AM

Spaceballs was an excellent parody of many films of the sci-fi genre and a sequel would be a brilliant idea. I've heard all the rumours and seen various suggested titles, but does anybody have any concrete proof that Mel is going to write the sequel?

I don't want to get my hopes up and then have them obliterated.

Posted by: Andrew F Palmer at April 30, 2005 03:23 AM

I must admit I thought spaceballs was a very funny movie, and the funniest part for me was when Helmet says he can't breath in this thing. lol

As for John Candy, they don't even need to replace him. They could CGI him, (with permission from those closest to him of course) I'm sure it could be done.

Posted by: Carl at April 30, 2005 03:43 AM

OK OK OK I would first and foremost say to TOM You need a stiff schwartz shoved right up yer rear.. You stupid scruffy looking nerf herding Jar Jar lover... Spaceballs is a cult classic.. At least I think it should be, as well as most of the other people who have posted on here.. No one could replace John Candy.. Chris Farley might have come close but unfortunately he has departed as well.. They should not even bother trying to get Barf back on the scene.. No one will ever be able to pull it off... They need to get cameo appearence's by sine if the Star Wars members.. I did like how they got Mark Hamill to appear in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.. I am a die hard Star Wars fan with a very large collection and I will always have a special spot on my shelf for Spaceballs...

Posted by: DarthGrim at May 4, 2005 09:56 PM

TOM you suck your dead mom's manly balls!
if you would take time from jerking off to Leonarnd Lemoy you would see how AWESOME spaceballs is.

Posted by: Rick at May 6, 2005 01:37 PM

Spaceballs is brilliant for many reasons, the quote at the beginning of this review definitely among them. I was saddened to discover that Spaceballs 2 was a hoax, but Spaceballs: The Animated Series looks legitimate:

http://www.scrypticstudios.com/index.php/news/179

However, we at spaceballstheprequel.com will not rest until there is a prequel made - even a sequel will not make us entirely happy.

Posted by: Dark Aaron at May 6, 2005 04:39 PM

When I found out the news that there was going to be a spaceball sequel, i was so excited, I couldn't stop telling my mum. I have bombarded my friends at school with puotes from spaceballs 1 and they are all dying to see it. Tom, I cannot think of another theory about your lack of love for spaceballs except that you have had a lobotomy. I think that they should make lone starr take on a padawan. Barf Barf binks; good idea but it wont happen. My the schwartz be with you

Posted by: Lone Death starr at May 11, 2005 02:45 AM

I barfed with excitement when I heard of Spaceballs 2. Lone Death Starr Barf Barf Binks will prevail over your padawan. They should make a Schwartz temple like the jedi temple on star wars. They should also make a pizza the hutt ghost. Tom go stick your head where it belongs...in the toilet

Posted by: puke at May 11, 2005 02:51 AM

Congrats on having another Spaceballs. My son who is 6, loves that movie,as also myself. I can't wait to bring him to see this one. I think there should be characters that are Jedi's make them Jewi's, that would be funny. And i will be waiting in line for this one.
Are the same actors gonna be in it, like the princess and her dad, Lonestar, Barf as we know it John Candy wont but maybe a son of Barf. Reg.(regurgutate)
See you at the show

Posted by: Lord Don at May 13, 2005 04:58 PM

Ok, this might seem like a dumb question for you guys, but help me out please: I'm from Germany and I've only seen the dubbed version - until today. In spite of the language barrier, I got most of the jokes in English, except maybe the most important one: *what* is The Schwartz? In German it's translated as The Juice but as I don't know what Schwartz is, I have no idea if that makes any sense at all - a lot of word games are lost in translation..... so if you could educate me here?

Posted by: Kessy at May 16, 2005 09:31 AM

Mel Brooks (brilliant writer) now has 3 more episodes of Star Wars to make fun of...for which Lucas has helped him more than he could have ever imagined with the likes of Jar Jar and young Anakin. Add to that the Matrix and LOTR and there's no way a Spaceballs sequel can fail.

"I said fire across her nose not up it!"

Posted by: Prophecy at May 16, 2005 02:08 PM

Spaceballs is the coolest movie ever. Ive been hoping for a sequel since the line
"I hope to see you again in Space Balls 2, the Search for more money" but 17 or so years have gone by. I hope it comes out soon.

Kessy - Schwartz is not an English word. It rhymes with Force but sounds funnier. I suppose if anything, it's another self-referential Jew joke (schwartz sounds sort of like a Yiddish word).

Posted by: siddhartha at May 18, 2005 04:12 PM

Spaceballs 2 is gonna be too sweet! I wonder what dark helmet is gonna be like as a kid. I wonder if it's gonna be anything like the Star Wars. I wonder a lot of things about this new one, including when it's gonna come out. I cant wait. I am your father's brother's nefew's cousin's former roomate.

Posted by: rowan at July 27, 2005 02:54 PM

How about: "Space Balls, Revenge Of The Gafeltafish."
I wish Mel Brooks would make a parody of "Lord of The Rings."
He could change it to "Lord of The Midgets, Return of The Dwarf." or something like that. John Candy was so funny. He's the only person I've ever seen that makes me laugh by just looking at him. One time on SCTV, he faked being choked-up and nervous between lyrics in an old Chiliwack song. It was his turn in the band to hit the high note in the song. Suddenly, on the lyrics "she leads along the way," he gasped half-way through singing and his face turned red with this uncomfortable look that only he could make. It would have made a cat laugh.

Posted by: scott snot at August 13, 2005 10:43 AM

A great idea for a Mel Brooks sequel, something he has never done before, would be a combination of two movies coming together. Who doesn't remeber the ending to History of the World Part 1?

It would be great to see a movie where the "Spaceballs" encounter the "Jews in Space".
