Doom the Movie Fragging its Way To Theaters
Ah yes, the tradition of video games being made into movies is a long and glorious one. Well... at least it's a long one. Let's be honest here folks, video game movies almost universally blow. The first one I remember is Marios Brothers. Ouch, that one still gives me shivers. But did anyone learn their lesson from that one? Nope. The proud tradition has since been carried on by such classics as Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Double Dragon, Wing Commander, Mortal Kombat (ok ok ok, I admit I still own the first one), and so on and so on.
The thing is, video games with wide market appeal guarantee at least marginal box office returns... which increases the temptation for a studio to back such a project (because lets be honest here... it's all about the cash. No one made House of the Dead because they were artistically inspired to do so).
Doom has such market appeal and it was only a matter of time until someone stepped up to roll the dice on a screen version. The good folks over at Dark Horizons report the following:
The script is close to final and we're very happy with it. Universal is in the process of casting and pre-production now. With every passing day I become more and more confident that we will see DOOM at movie theaters before the end of next year.If you'd like to read the whole article just click here.

I didn't think either of the two Tomb Raider movies were that bad if you took them for what they were: summer popcorn movies. Oh, and it doesn't hurt that it starred Angelina Jolie.

Oh, but director Uwe Boll does think that House of the Dead was a good film and went on an angry rant about it. You can read that here. The irony, of course, is that he backs up his claim about it being good by comparing it to Resident Evil, Van Helsing and Underworld. Boll's directing BloodRayne now, by the way, which provides ample reason to be concerned for Ben Kingsley's sanity in agreeing to make the film ...
It looks like The Rock is going to star in the Doom film, by the way ...

Well, at least The Rock makes things interesting. He's not a very good actor, but his presence itself is pretty entertaining. Besides, he made a Joe Don Baker movie watchable, which is a pretty big accomplishment. The only one I could ever stomach was Mitchell, but only when Joel and the bots were in on it.

Todd, holy crap I can't believe that ran from Uwe Boll. This guy is COMPLETELY insane and should not, I repeat NOT have any oportunities to direct films ever again.

aargrggg...the rock....this sets off alarm bells in my brain, i mean, the rock is to mainstream, and his fan base is to young, it looks like they are going to turn it into some PG-13 piece of crap.....aarrrbggggggllleeeebogglellelel......

and i want zombies and demons ripping people in half and eating their guts and someone suitable badass enough blowing up legions of them with a rocket launcher!!!

I think that I was the only man in America who actually LIKED the Final Fantasy movie. The thing that killed it was the fact that it had nothing to do with the game!
Who else thinks that Hideo Kojima should write and direct a Metal Gear movie?

Another game-to-movie/movie-to-game trainwreck was BALLISTIC:ECKS VS. SEVER. There was a Gameboy title made, closely followed up by a movie that was supposed to tie in with it. Of course, the game was out at least a YEAR before that travesty of a film hit screens, but still... it technically counts as yet another failed attempt at a video game film.

I think 'Alone in the dark' is going to bomb too. It is also directed by Uwe Boll, starring Christian Slater, Dorf, Tara Reid

No actualy the doom movie is going to be an R rated movie. Its not like it wasnt rated Mature as a game wich isnt technicly for youn viewers anyway.
No the rock isnt realy a good actor but he isnt exactly a terrible one either, I gues he got lots of acting practes while he was a wrestler.And he isnt playing the main charactor, he plays sarge, who is tall and show-offy.
